My name has a male and female variant
It was number 36 the year I was given it
It was acceptable in the 80s
It's a bit French
It's also a little bit Essex
Most people shorten it

Assuming from your username that you’re female, then that seems a bit mean 🤣. What was your parents reasoning behind “Jeremy”?

I am female but not actually a lesbian nor a nana. 😂I name changed to it because of a thread and never got around to changing it to something else.

It's French.
It's quite unusual.
It's never been popular but I think it's a nice name.
Part of it means little which is ironic because I'm big and tall.

Pauline/Paula

Mine is a character from Peep Show :) and also a Roald Dahl character.
Born in the early 80's, I was the only one with this name at school, now I think there are hundreds!

Thanks! It’s my birth name. My sister is Jill and brother Jon. I’ve always liked it and never tire of the conversation starter it always seems to be. 😁

Why did your parents choose it?

Notashamed13 · 14/10/2025 22:06

Valerie? Val?

No, the songs are a bit older and everyone in the 70s had an aunty Val, even if she was just your mum’s friend 😄

That’s interesting, is it your birth name or a name you chose for yourself? If your birth name, did you get sick of having to explain it?

Thanks! It’s my birth name. My sister is Jill and brother Jon. I’ve always liked it and never tire of the conversation starter it always seems to be. 😁

No, but I love Siouxsie & the Banshee’s version of it. Very good guess though.

My name is very short, not much more than an initial really. You never ever meet anyone called this who is younger than 55

My name is very princessy!

Bloatstoat · 14/10/2025 21:50

Very popular in school - 3 in my class in the late 80s/early 90s, but still used now, there's one in my DD's class. It's the name of a tv character writer turned detective, and the shortened version drives around with Postman Pat.

My name is a nickname of a longer name. People often try and call me a different nickname of the longer name - which I dislike.

Everybody I’ve ever met with my name hates being called the other nickname.

@HelloVeritas I was going to post a clue very similar to yours so I when I saw your post, I expected to see that we have the same name, but no!

So- my name was very common in the 70s and 80s. There were at least another 5 in my year at school, including one in my class. There are three ways to spell it (mine is the simplest). It is a Hebrew name whose meaning has something to do with sheep 😂 As names go, I quite like it- have certainly never hated it or wanted to change it.

You’re Rachel?

0ooh I like this game!mine was very popular in the 80s/90s, three others in my year at school. Can be shortened to a name in it's own right. Has a male equivalent.
No-one called this now aside from a very famously couple's son's, famous in her own right, wife.
