What are people's opinions on the name Edward? It's the only boys name me and DH sort of agree on but we don't feel it's the perfect one. We are worried it comes across as posh/possibly stuffy. Especially next to the more informal-sounding names that are popular at the moment

I love it, not keen on Eddie as a nn but Ed, Ted, Teddy are nice.
Also like Edmund and Edwin

I have an Edward and he is called that rather than any of the nicknames suggested (his choice).

I agree with the pp who said it sounds clunky, and I really dislike Ed, Eddie and Ned. There are much nicer traditional names, imo.

I have an Edward but he is Ted. We liked the fact there is a lot of nickname potential!

It’s inoffensive, easy to say, classless. Very popular in the 80s.

I have an Edward known as Ned. It suits him. His siblings are Arthur and Dorothy (Dottie).
He hates his full name and wants to be Ned by deed poll when he's older.

Absolutely love it - this was our second choice. Classic and strong. Not a fan of Ed as a nickname though and that’s why we went with something else!

Its a bit posh and weedy. Having said that I know some nice Eds. (They do fit the bill though!)

Fabulous name - strong, elegant, classic and with some great choices for diminutives, which helps if you are worried about it being too "posh."

I love it. It's a name in our family. Love the shortened versions too: Ed, Eddie, Ted, Teddy (while little).

Actually all the Edwards I know are quite statuesque, well-built men. A couple of skinny very young ones (under 10) maybe, but to me it isn't a weedy name at all.

My dad is Edward (Eddie) and one of my nephews. Who, because of some daft joke about Edward woodward that nobody can actually remember is called ‘woo’ . Love it.

Yeah I have heard of reports of Willy but all the same it's very popular in Australia. I also like Louis . I've found it really hard this time to choose a name. Really stuck between the two.

My dad was Eddie, as was his father, my grandad and I have a nephew Eddie or Ed! All girls in my own family or possibly one of us would have been an Edward or Eddie too!
