Katherine, Susanna, Miriam, Caroline, Joanna - super dated
Louisa, Helena - dated
Esther, Eleanor - the best of the bunch

I'm not a fan of dated names at all as I've got one. I was born in the 80's but my name peaked in the 50's. It's not cute at school being a Caroline when all your friends are called Olivia, Amelia, Poppy and Ivy. I actually got teased because of it.

If you're a fan of more traditional names, have you thought about Charlotte, Phoebe, Isabelle?

Thanks! I thought they were more classic rather than dated. I see what you mean though. Not keen on Charlotte or Phoebe but Isabelle is ok. I wouldn’t use it with Elisabeth though.

Helena - Pretty
Katherine - nice traditional name but meh
Louisa - prefer Eloise
Eleanor - awful sorry
Susanna (or Susannah) - nice and like Suzie
Esther - lovely
Miriam - okay
Caroline - awful sorry, might get called Carol
Joanna - old fashioned, Jolie/Joni instead?

Firebird83 · 09/10/2025 14:14

Thanks, I like Josephine and Mary

Eleanor is the best from your list but I’d avoid another E name. Not keen on any of the others - Esther, Miriam, Joanna and Caroline are particularly awful.

Audrey
Clare
Genevieve
Juliet
Isabel
Cecilia

I like Isabel (prefer Isobel)

There's not a bad name on your list OP! I'm particularly drawn to Caroline to pair with Elisabeth.

Other thoughts:
Clementine
Josephine

Thanks! I like Josephine

I have a little Louisa ‘Lou’ aged 7 and hope it’s not dated! 😫I kind of see it as classic/Jane Austen esque as it’s never been tied to one decade. Same for Helena. I would consider Caroline, Joanna and Katherine (although, Kitty?) somewhat dated but the others are lovely!

DuchessOfNarcissex · 09/10/2025 10:20

@MadamPomfrey , that's one instance. Names tend to get shortened and you have no control if the individual decides to use a diminutive.
I know three Helenas - a Helen-a known as Hella, and a Heleena known as Lena, and another Heleena not shortened. The pronunciation is regional.

MadamPomfrey · 09/10/2025 09:28

If it helps at all with the posters saying Helena would get shortened to Elle/Ellie etc, there’s a Helena in my family (adult) and not once has anybody attempted to shorten it, she’s always just been Helena. She gets quite a few compliments on her name too!

Italiangreyhound · 09/10/2025 03:21

Helena
Lois
Cassie

I love all of your names.

With Elisabeth as a sister, I would not use Esther, nor Eleanor, due to same first initials.

Others ..
Gabriella
Margaret
Josephine
Harriette
Anastasia
Mary

motleymop · 08/10/2025 22:00

Helena goes so well with Elisabeth, IMHO

Elephantangel1991 · 08/10/2025 21:45

Lovely list, I like them all apart from Esther. Probably Miriam is my favourite but lots of nice choices.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 08/10/2025 19:01

Your list is lovely. I would choose Joanna.

Maybe also Cecily or Laura?

HornyHornersPinger · 08/10/2025 18:53

Oh, just to add, Louisa is grown-up and we only met one other with the same name when she was younger. Alexia is nearly 8 and we've never met another.
Out of the others on your list, Helena is the only name I currently know 1 of. (Child I mean, know lots of adults with those names)

Katherine or Catherine. A classic name that pairs well with Elisabeth and offers modern choices of nickname.

Personally I would prefer a name of the same length as DD1 so would consider Alexandra, Francesca and Madeleine as well (although I expect Madeleine would regularly be misspelled).

It’s almost as if there’s more in common than differences between the two isn’t it?

That's because the name is from Hebrew. The Muslim Maryam is the New Testament Mary.
Many names have a Muslim version and a Christian version, like Daniel/Danyal, Amran/Imran, Joseph/Yusuf, Abraham/Ibrahim, ...

pilates · 08/10/2025 18:49

Out of your list Louisa.

Clara
Jemima

HornyHornersPinger · 08/10/2025 18:48

I have a Louisa. And an Alexia ❤️ Just totally outed myself but I love my girl's names!

Zippidydoodah · 08/10/2025 18:46

Sorry, me again! I adore the nn Suzie/Susie so I would go for Susanna 😊

Onefortheroad25 · 08/10/2025 18:45

I love everything on your list. Great taste! My favourite is Louisa. Such a beautiful name.

Zippidydoodah · 08/10/2025 18:44

Katherine and Elisabeth = royalty

Zippidydoodah · 08/10/2025 18:43

Louisa is beautiful, though the Louisas and Louises I know, are all Lou, which I hate!

Joanna is still ugly imo, but the rest of your names are good choices.
