They're all nice names (except Miriam imo). When we had DD we didn't even consider what 'went well' with our DS.

The likelihood is your DD2 will look reasonably similar to DD1 (assuming they have the same genentics). I would consider what other names on your list would also have suited DD1.

I love Caroline (or Carrie) but my DD doesn't remotely look like a Caroline. My DD doesn't really suit her actual name atm, which is unisex and very 'old lady'. She'd have suited a more modern name. I'm hoping she'll grow into it.

Susanna (with or without the h) is the stand out for me. Lovely name, lovely nicknames.

I personally don't rate Katherine or Joanna. Not bad names in themselves, but there were so, so many of them, so every workplace is full of middle ages Jo, Joanne(a), Kate, Catherine, Katie's etc. It needs a bit more time for these to become fresh again.

Also Elisabeth and Katherine in a bit Royal!

BTW, I absolutely LOVE Elisabeth spelt with an s.

MrsGusset · 10/10/2025 13:27

I like them all apart from Esther & Joanna.

Favourites: Katherine & Caroline (also like Carolyn)

Other possibilities: Henrietta, Charlotte or Lucy?

Some people have called at least one of the names "old fashioned" or "dated". I need to know when names become "old fashioned" and when they become acceptable again - surely it's when people use them to name their children, isn't it?

I say this because I see names like Ivy, Elsie, Daphne, Ruby, etc used - these were, when I was a child, the names of very old ladies!

I agree, Elsie actually still feels a bit old-lady to me!

I agree. Makes line Harry, George, Grace, Etc were all considered really old fashioned. Until recently, the only Imogen I knew was in her eighties. My sil named her daughter the same as an older work colleague of mine.

Emmz1510 · 09/10/2025 17:45

I only like Katherine.

SilkAndSparklesForParties · 09/10/2025 17:19

Joanne doesn't quite work for me but your list is lovely.

Susannah
Caroline
Helena

Would be my tops. I think Caroline is due a a come back.

Ddakji · 09/10/2025 17:02

Katherine

Susannah if you’re intentionally being biblical.

Firebird83 · 09/10/2025 14:14

Thanks, I like Josephine and Mary

Both gorgeous and would 'fit' very well with Elizabeth.

Firebird83 · 09/10/2025 14:06

I like Isabel (prefer Isobel)

Isobel (and all its variants) is a version of Elizabeth that comes to us via Spain.

mathanxiety · 09/10/2025 16:59

Firebird83 · 09/10/2025 14:16

Thanks! I thought they were more classic rather than dated. I see what you mean though. Not keen on Charlotte or Phoebe but Isabelle is ok. I wouldn’t use it with Elisabeth though.

The names on your list are very definitely more classic than dated, apart from Joanna.

Silverbirchleaf · 09/10/2025 15:39

Good list

Helena - ok
Katherine - not keen
Louisa - love, or Elouise
Eleanor - live
Susanna (or Susannah) - prefer with H, love
Esther - no
Miriam - not sure, could grow on me
Caroline - ok
Joanna - no sure

Suggestions:
Christina
Hannah
Harriet
Gemma
Georgia
Delilah
Daphne
Rebecca
Tamsin

All lovely names OP.
Joanna is a name I haven’t heard on a child for years, it’s so nice. I really like all those names which rarely happens, but possibly like Esther, Joanna and Miriam best of all. They are all classics and work well with Elisabeth, they have the same ‘feel’.

Suffolker · 08/10/2025 14:30

I really love that list of names (and it’s not often I feel that way on here!).
My favourites are Helena, Louisa and Susanna. I think they all go well with Elisabeth, but I think I like Susanna best 😊

Me too! Not a bad name on the list.

Favourite is probably Joanna.

onetrickrockingpony · 09/10/2025 15:25

Marianne is much prettier than Miriam.

WildCherryBlossom · 09/10/2025 15:12

It’s a beautiful list. Susannah would be my top choice. I also love Miriam
and Louisa. Marianne would be another suggestion.

They're ALL nice names. If forced at gunpoint to pick just one, I'd choose Joanna.

But honestly - all really good.

Clearinguptheclutter · 09/10/2025 14:54

Nice names! You don’t get many little girls given these names

like all but I’d avoid another E. Susanna(h) nn Susie, would be my choice

manicpixieschemegirl · 09/10/2025 14:50

Your child will not thank you for calling her Josephine or Mary. There are lots of classic names which aren’t so dowdy. You seem to like strong names though so -

Beatrice
Alexandra
Ingrid
Anna
Matilda
Bridget
Adeline
Rosalind
Frida
Vivian

mathanxiety · 09/10/2025 14:18

All are lovely except Joanna. I'd avoid Esther and Eleanor purely because of the same initial.

I'd have a very hard time picking one from the rest of the list. Maybe it would boil down to Katherine or Louisa for me.
