What a fun question! :)

Girls I can remember: Cheryl, Carol, Alison, Susan, Deborah, Julie, Karen, Ann (no e), Sharon, Michaela.

Boys: I didn't like the boys enough to remember them! :D I can only think of John, Keith, Sean.

Feel free to take a guess at my age. :)

Girls: Sarah, Catherine / Katherine / Kathryn, Joanne, Anna, Michelle, Amie / Aimee, Nicola, Caroline, Amelia, Rebecca … I think these were the only names that we had more than one of in the year.

I don’t remember the boys from primary and I went to a girls’ secondary school. But among my brother’s classmates I seem to remember that it was far more common to have duplicate names in every class. They were basically all called James, Matt, Mark, Andrew or Chris (Catholic school so lots of saint’s names!).

ArtesianWater · 04/10/2025 02:52

And yes, why was everyone's middle name Louise??

ArtesianWater · 04/10/2025 02:52

90% of the girls were some version of Catherine. Kate, Katie, Katy, Kat, Katherine, Catherine. The rest were Emily and Emma!

All girls senior school. 4 C/Katherine’s in a single class and more across the year - but luckily most used different nicknames, although minimum 2 Sarah’s per class too.

At my mixed sex primary I remember there being more than one Christopher and James in a class (as well as more Sarah’s).

In comparison my DS has no duplicate names in his primary class, and in fact very few throughout the school. There is really such a wide spread of names now.

KawasakiBabe · 04/10/2025 00:57

I can’t remember many people, I walked out of school and never spoke to anyone again, lol. But names were generally…

Nicky, Vicky, Michelle, Tracy, Sarah, Susan, Julie, Debbie
Steve, Kevin, Dave, Gary, Richard, Mark, Martin, Paul
