Brother for Matilda

We’re really really struggling with a boys name! We loved Matilda from the start and we don’t have a boys name we’ve had the same connection to.

Middle name will be Peter for family reasons.

so far we have:
Frederick
Oscar
Douglas (Dougie / Doug)
George
Alexander
Edward (Ted / Teddy - I do not like Ed so that puts me off a bit).
Louis

Which do you prefer? (Other suggestions welcome!)

I like Alexander best, lots of nn options, but also sounds lovely in full, similar vibe to Matilda and a classic that never dates

JillyGiraffe · 01/10/2025 20:32

From your list, I think George and Edward go best with Matilda. I’ve only met one young George and one Teddy. I actually really like Tilly and Ted (or Teddy).
Other suggestions:
Matilda and William
Matilda and Thomas
Matilda and Theodore

I like Frederick the best but those are very nice names.

What about
Marcus
Guy
Maxim

Christian

(I never comment on these threads usually! I think Matilda’s brother deserves 3 syllables, good luck finding a name you love)

Love the name Christian!

I like Douglas the best. They are all nice names. I like Oscar the least, it's still nice but not in the same league as the others. Philip and Hector are two names I think go well with Matilda.

I like George from your list, how about Chester? Same feel but less common. I know a gorgeous Chester!

James

Frederick and Oscar are my favourites from your list.

Other ideas
Matilda and Mathias
Matilda and Jonathan
Matilda and August/Augustus

Sebastian goes with Matilda

ImFineItsAllFine · 01/10/2025 12:52

From your list - Douglas

Oscar/Freddie/George/Louis are everywhere at the moment, if that would bother you.

Another suggestion:

Benedict (Ben for short)

Edward (Ted) and Frederick (Freddie, if you wish) are my favourites and work really nicely with Matilda.

Lemonadepie · 01/10/2025 12:41

I like Edward and Douglas. How about
Caspar
Quentin
Magnus

Mumofgirls2017 · 01/10/2025 12:06

I like Oscar and George best, but they are extremely popular at the moment.
does Matilda get called Tilly? If so, Tilly and Teddy is a bit twee.
How about:
Dominic
Alistair
Christopher (Kit has similar vibes to Ted/Teddy)

I don’t like George or Oscar because there are about six in both my DC’s year, it’s crazy. They’re everywhere where we live.

I love Alexander. Dislike Louis, it’s just a bit wet.
