We’re really really struggling with a boys name! We loved Matilda from the start and we don’t have a boys name we’ve had the same connection to.

Middle name will be Peter for family reasons.

so far we have:
Frederick
Oscar
Douglas (Dougie / Doug)
George
Alexander
Edward (Ted / Teddy - I do not like Ed so that puts me off a bit).
Louis

Which do you prefer? (Other suggestions welcome!)

Tilda is short for Matilda too and some of those names go really well.
What about Gregory?

We have a Matilda and our boy name was Ivo (eye-vo). Had another girl though.

Arthur sounds good

Thanks all, loads of great ideas here, and reassurance on the names on the list!

I know a Matilda and Barnaby. I feel like this fits with your other options quite well.

Brs2024 · 02/10/2025 09:19

Oscar is really lovely! I'm having the same dilemma. Pregnant with my first and we've already had the girls name sorted for years, but if the baby is a boy, we're stumped. We actually really like Oscar and Oliver :)

MonkeyPuddle · 02/10/2025 08:46

My Matilda has a Joseph.

dontcomeatme · 02/10/2025 08:33

We thought our Edward would be Teddy but he's very much a Ted. I think Ted or Ned with Tilly or Mattie is lovely x

Although Matilla the Hun beats every other name! Love it

Kitjo · 02/10/2025 05:10

Tristan (and Isolde) and Matilda

mathanxiety · 02/10/2025 03:16

I like all of those names - stick a pin in your list and any name would be perfect.

Frederick or George would go really well with Peter.

HighburyHope · 02/10/2025 01:07

Love your list. How about Angus?

mummymetalhead · 01/10/2025 23:31

Franklin
Wilson
James
Arthur
Myles

Matilda was on our shortlist, and our shortlist for boys was Alexander, James, Hector, Patrick and Douglas.

Lovely name ideas! George is my favourite. I also love Frederick, Oscar, Alexander, Edward and Louis. The Matilda I know has a brother called Samuel, which is lovely too.

I also like Harry, Henry, Arthur, Benjamin, Thomas, Zachary, Isaac, James, Joseph and Jonathan.

Yes, nothing like the classics!

OSTMusTisNT · 01/10/2025 22:29

Alexander but only if your surname doesn't start with an E.

Needspaceforlego · 01/10/2025 22:27

For some reason Matilda brings Walter to mind. And I not come across a little Walter ever.

Definitely not Rufus that's absolutely a dogs name "Ruff Ruff", said Rufus

I love Ned as a nn for Edward (Tilly and Ned / Mattie and Ned both work).

Mattie and Ned is lovely.

(Though I still rather like Matilla the Hun!)
