Felix

We really like the name Felix and we're struggling with boys names otherwise. It goes nicely with his sister's name and we really like the happy or lucky meaning.

But does it make you think cat food??

Nope only think of cats

CharlieKirkRIP · 20/10/2025 13:04

Lovely name.

YorkshireIndie · 20/10/2025 13:04

I would have named my DD Felix if she had been a boy. Named her Felicity instead

ZenNudist · 20/10/2025 12:56

It's a good name. Means happiness.

I know a teen Felix and I've never thought of cat food. Is there still a cat food called Felix?

DiscoBob · 20/10/2025 12:51

I absolutely love it. And the cat connotation! I had a friend called that as a kid and always loved the name.

Egregiousabsolute · 20/10/2025 12:49

Cat food.

TidyAmberPoster · 20/10/2025 12:43

It’s a nice name!

bugalugs45 · 15/10/2025 08:59

My work colleagues son is Felix , and I immediately think of the cat every time she says it , I also think Max despite being popular is a dogs name

Felix is 100% Cat to me.

There’s a well known brand of cat food called Felix in the UK., and a cartoon character called Felix the Cat!

And in Latin Felis means cat.

bellocchild · 29/09/2025 10:03

Felix means happy and Felis is the Latin for cat, which is probably why the manufacturers used it. We have two in our family - excellent name.

Taurielwasntinthebook · 29/09/2025 09:44

I know a lovely Felix in his late 20s. I’m pretty sure it’s on the rise. I love it. Definitely nothing to worry about.
It used to be quite a posh boy name.

SignatureShortdeads · 29/09/2025 09:44

I think it’s a beautiful name.

HugoYorway · 29/09/2025 09:38

It makes me think of cat food because:

  1. I don't know lots of kids called Felix.
  2. I see adverts for Felix cat food when out and about
  3. My cat eats Felix.
ResusciAnnie · 29/09/2025 09:06

I like it!

Doesn’t make me think of cat food:

  1. because there are lots of kids called Felix nowadays

  2. because adverts are rarely watched anymore so not on the radar

  3. I’m not in the market for cat food

Also who cares if it makes people think of cat food? It will just become a persons name after 1 or 2 instances of meeting a Felix.

reabies · 29/09/2025 09:02

I have a Felix, and DH said no to it for DS1, because of the cat food association. By the time DS2 arrived, he realised that really didn't matter, and we went for it. It is such a lovely, beautiful name. I also literally don't care if it makes people think of cat food, there is nothing offensive or grim about cat food. The only associations I worry about are serial killers or other high profile criminals/unsavoury celebs. Actually the only thing that bothers me about Felix is how popular it's becoming, but I loved it too much to not use it because of that.

PurpleChrayn · 28/09/2025 19:58

Brilliant name.

FrodoBiggins · 28/09/2025 19:30

It's quite nice. You might find there's a little bubble of baby Felixes around Stamford Bridge thanks to João Félix

Alexandrine · 28/09/2025 19:28

No. Or at least no more than Zara necessarily makes me think of the shop. They are popular names in their own right and once you know children with them, you tend to forget they are also brands/products.

I’d possibly tell you to think more carefully about Sheba for a girl (not necessarily discount it, but think carefully) - but Felix? Nah, there’s enough boys/men with the name that cat food shouldn’t be an issue.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/09/2025 16:59

I know a very cool 10 year old Felix. I also have a cat who eats Felix cat food. No association of child and cat food for me, and he’s far too nonchalant to care.

Ketzele · 28/09/2025 16:04

It's my grandads name!

HugoYorway · 28/09/2025 16:00

Felix the cat and Felix cat food. It's fine but it doesn't shorten, if that is a concern.

JillyGiraffe · 28/09/2025 13:00

It does make me think of cat food, but I’m yet to meet a child called Felix.

Redhotspicywine · 27/09/2025 21:17

It's a cat food name
My friend has a Felix and I've never said it out loud to him but I always think about it when I write a card etc!

Cinnamonbunn · 27/09/2025 21:12

I think Felix is a great name.
I do associate it to a minor degree with cats but it wouldn’t put me off using it if I wanted to, and I would never make that comment to another parent if it came to mind when they introduced me to their child.
