Hello all!
Looking for a middle name for Agnes and was wondering what the general public thinks of these:

Agnes Elsa
Agnes Elsie
Agnes Essie
Agnes Élise / Elise
Agnes Elyse
Agnes Elvira

As you can see from the poll I have a thing for names that start with an E 😜

Other names we like are:

Agnes Iris
Agnes Lovisa
Agnes Vilhelmina

Or can you think of names that you think we would like...

TY!😍

I’m surprised at all the hate for Agnes. I think it’s lovely. I agree with the poster above about having a 4 syllable middle name - it has a better rhythm than 2-2.

I voted Elise of your names. I prefer it to the others anyway, but also if you do go with a 2-syllable surname, it sounds better where the the emphasis is different:
AGnes eLISE rather than AGnes ELsa

Have you got any other ideas to help with suggestions, like a theme or something?

Fatiguedwithlife · 25/09/2025 18:08

@CitizenZno it’s not… especially NN Aggie is cute

Fatiguedwithlife · 25/09/2025 18:07

My relative was called Agnes Leontine. She was a countess ☺️

CitizenZ · 25/09/2025 18:06

Agnes is a truly awful name. Please don't make your child be called this.

thebeautifulsky · 25/09/2025 18:02

Love the name Agnes. I have many in my family tree.
Agnes Ethel
Agnes Edna
Agnes Edith
Agnes Eliza

Non e names:
Agnes Florence or Florrie
Agnes Wilma
Agnes Beatrice
Agnes Alma
Agnes Flora
Agnes Louisa
Agnes Ada

Agnes is very pretty and not common.

I like Agnes Jane, Agnes Mary and Agnes Elizabeth.

Edited

I like these three two , as well as your E suggestions: I voted Elise because i think Agnes calls for something very soft and pretty to contrast.

Donttellempike · 25/09/2025 17:58

I think it might be an age thing. To me Agnes says someone in their 80s , each to their own. I think it is hideous

AgnesX · 25/09/2025 17:52

Perdita 😁

Seriously though, I really wouldn't. Elise is pretty. If you do Agnes Anne?

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 25/09/2025 17:51

Crikey, please don't name your child Agnes.
Use it as a middle name if you must.

Agnes Eliza

I love Agnes Eliza

Anything that she can use instead of Agnes, as it's an awful name.

Sorry I agree. Its awful. Move to Scotland she'll get Senga! So many nice names

NetballHoop · 25/09/2025 17:12

I don't normally like same starting letter middle names but Agnes Anne sounds perfect to my ear.

Oneearringlost · 25/09/2025 17:07

Agnes Frances

RuthW · 25/09/2025 17:05

E names don’t flow with Agnes.

Agnes Louisa
Agnes Josephine
Agnes Cordelia

Indicateyourintentions · 25/09/2025 16:43

Rose

HugoYorway · 25/09/2025 16:43

Agnes Elsa
Agnes Elsie
Agnes Essie
Agnes Élise / Elise
Agnes Elyse
Agnes Elvira

None of them sound great. Essie is the worst. Elsa the best.

Are you in the UK, and do you have non-UK heritage? Are you saying Agnes as Ag-nes?

Purplecatshopaholic · 25/09/2025 16:40

Literally nothing goes with Agnes, it’s an awful, harsh sounding name. Aggie isn't any better. Pick the one she can use instead when she’s older.

LivingTheDreamish · 25/09/2025 16:38

Agnes Eliza

Merrymouse · 25/09/2025 16:16

Love Agnes.

I quite like Elvira, but also like Elizabeth.

Plastictreees · 25/09/2025 16:15

Agnes Elise, the rest I find too clunky.

WildCherryBlossom · 25/09/2025 16:14

The E names kind of roll together with Agnes. So Agnus Elsa sounds like Alka Seltzer. If you are set on an E name, I think Agnes Eloise is pretty.

GoldenRosebee · 25/09/2025 16:04

None but Agnes Lovisa, or even better yet, name without a S letter.
love Agnes

mismomary · 25/09/2025 15:57

Elvira the clear winner for me.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 25/09/2025 15:30

Louise.

JustStopItNorasaurus · 25/09/2025 15:30

Please not Agnes. I know older more classic names are back, but there are prettier options out there.

Unless you propose to say it like the French. The English version is quite hard sounding IMO.
