Jezebel was eaten by dogs?

Lolita is apparently coming back so you might just get away with it?

And obviously Jess/Jessie/Jessica are all great names - but i that these days Olive would sound far much cuter and more original.

Weegiemum · 03/06/2008 12:42

Jessie is my dd2's middle name, after my Gran. Not sure I would have given it as a first name, I have taught I think 3 Jessies in remote rural Scotland, all of whom were Jess, as they hated the name. My Grandpa called my Gran Jess IIRC.

I would also go for Jessica on BC for options. Didn'd do that for dd2 as (1) not needed, she has a cool first name and (2) My gran was Jessie, and she always regretted it, but I was naming dd2 after her, so used the same name. Gran always said 'I wish I had a better name to give that bairn!'

Olive - don't like at all
Jessie - like abit

Oscar - like
Vinnie - hate

Mavornia · 03/06/2008 11:32

What about Jessamine (my favourite) or Jessamy instead of Jessica - can still be shortened to Jess/Jessie

LunarSea · 03/06/2008 11:31

I met a toddler called Jezebel last year. Teen mum was clearly unaware of the negative connotations!
Lots of little Oscar's around here. Met a little Caspar recently which is similar but a lot less used.

EffiePerine · 03/06/2008 11:10

Oscar and Vincent (not Vinnie) nice

Olive: I think of woman from On the Buses

I think it's Jezebel if you want to follow the other Jessie suggestion, but I wouldn't as she was a notorious scarlet woman and ended up being eaten by dogs.

Dear god how can you people say there are millions of Oscar's. That is just not true.

I have a ds called Oscar, he is the only one that I know.

There are millions of boys called Thomas, William, James, Callum, Jack, Harry, need I go on.

And what is wrong with calling a child a name that is popular if the parents like it.

This section is getting ridiculous.

To the OP if you like the name Oscar go for it.

Btw really like Olive, very cute.

Anyone know a Vinnie who isn't a little nutter?

janeite · 02/06/2008 19:10

I love Oscar and like Vincent. Don't like Vinnie or Olive as they both sound a little "hard" if that makes sense. Jessie - no opinion.

Don't like Olive, Olivia is nice enough, Oscar is ok.
Don't like nickname sounding names that aren't actually short for something else (ie, just Jessie rather than Jessica, etc.)

Jessie should be short for Jessica, Vinnie should be short for Vincent - and personally, I prefer Vincent, we know a funny clever popular 8yo Vincent quite well.

LynetteScavo · 02/06/2008 18:32

I'm not keen on Olive. Only very cool people can pull off Jessie.

Don't go for Oscar, as there are millions

I love Vinnie, and would like it if there is ever another baby Scavo, but would go for Vincent on birht certificate.

VictorianSqualor · 02/06/2008 18:22

If you use Jessie for a boy you will have to sing as a lullaby.

seeker · 02/06/2008 18:16

Oh PLEASE don't give boys girl's names! Yes, i know that Jesse is a Biblical male name but try convinving a Reception class of that!

I prefer Olivia to Olive, and Jessica to Jessie.

Oscar is a nice boy's name. Quite popular now if that bothers you though.

JessJess3908 · 02/06/2008 17:43

I did not! [outraged]

But i did get it from a cabbage patch kid...

I don't suppose you can really call your daughter Jezebelle?

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/06/2008 17:40

You've probably never met a Jessebelle because it's a name you've just made up JessJess .

JessJess3908 · 02/06/2008 17:35

Or Jessebelle? There are lots of little Jessica's but I've never met a Jessebelle and i think it's very cool.

Olive is lovely. Much funkier that the top ten Olivia.

I like oscar - it came 39th in list of boys names last year so not too popular at all.

Hope that helps!

cyteen · 02/06/2008 17:34

I like Jessie, and Vincent (but not Vinnie).

Olive is a bit old lady to my ears, and Oscar is everywhere. Plus it's my in-laws' cat's name

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/06/2008 17:30

There were 1590 Oscars named last year, and 1326 the year before, so plenty, but not millions.

I'm also not keen on Vinnie I'm afraid.

rusmum · 02/06/2008 17:26

THanks. dont know whats wrong with me. Are there now a million little Oscars??
