I always think of a conversation I overheard on the bus when I see threads like this.
Two lively teenagers discussing (? an older sister/acquaintance) someone's new baby.
"He's lovely...but what were they thinking of - such a WEIRD name"
"Oh shame, what?"
"DAVID. I mean..."

I liked Stephen for DS but couldn't have it as it rhymes too much with out surname.

stephen
stephan

is a nice name, looks good written, sounds well. does have steve connotations of course, is that the prob do you think?

MsDemeanor · 01/06/2008 22:27

Stephen is a nicer spelling IMO. It's not fashionable, that's all. But is much more 'different' as a result than all the so-called 'individual' names around nowadays, usually beginning with K for some reason.
Your son would be ahead of the pack!

Nothing at all. It's just not very fashionable at the moment.
Purists would also go for Stephen, I gather, rather than the phonetic spelling.
