I think I have it, but need advice on the correct combination (sound) and or a better name to go with Piper (my preferred name for baby girl). Please chime in! Ty!

Pyed

CrostaDiPizza · 04/09/2025 11:25

Shisha?
Pan?

Siv - look it up
Pipér - how do you say it? Is it Spanish or something? is it Pip-air?
Piper is slang for someone annoying.

Violet

Violet Piper could visualise a bagpiper in purple tartan

Or Scarlet?

I like that! Bookmarked! Ty!

It was a joke, OP. Billie Piper is a singer/actress.

I mentioned it not to suggest it. That terrible disaster is the first thing that sprang to mind. I would never choose the name (even if I liked it, which I don’t) because of that association. Given it happened years ago, possible that OP is unaware of it. Please don’t suggest that I was wrong or disgusting.

Id completely forgotten about it although I was just old enough to remember. I was early primary

They might not have remembered either.

I’m sorry I don’t like it. All I can think of is Piper Alpha (and that is not a suggestion - for those that don’t know it was a major disaster).

I immediately thought Piper Alpha too.

Give her an actual name rather than an occupation.

Maris. 😁

Very good. 👍🏻

Coldnightsapproachingwhereismyduvet · 04/09/2025 09:07

The only Piper I know is Piper Georgia

Really disgusted that some people are suggesting Alpha.
As someone for whom this was very close to home, shame on you.

Sorry, my thoughts go straight to Alpha too when you say Piper. A terrible accident, and not something I’d want to be reminded of every day.

For me its the convicted fellon Piper Chapman from Orange is the New Black that would put me off.
It was a popular show

Elephantangel1991 · 04/09/2025 08:38

Really surprised people find Piper an unusual/amusing name choice. I would class it in the same bracket as Summer, Amber, Harper etc. If anything it's slightly dated but maybe not in the UK, I might be skewed by watching too much Charmed! I've come across younger Pipers in the UK though.

Piper Melissa
Piper Georgie
Piper Katie
Piper Sophie
Piper Marianne

What does share on socials to get people to vote mean? 🤨
Naming a child is not a democratic process.

Whatthefuck3456 · 04/09/2025 08:25

Pippa

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 04/09/2025 08:07

Piper is ok though it will date

Really doesn't go with Siv though, collectively it sounds like baking equipment

Piper Ellen maybe

Or as alternatives to Piper that won't date so much

Aster
Phiiippa / Pippa
Ida
Stella
Astra
Sanna
Erica

CurlewKate · 04/09/2025 08:00

Alpha?

TizerorFizz · 04/09/2025 07:59

Piper is surely setting a girl up for ridicule? As can be seen above, it’s easy to make fun of it. Piper Maris is a potato! (As an example). It’s just a surname used as a first name for no good reason but it’s just too difficult to use. I’d advise using a recognised name and using Piper as a nickname. Philippa is obviously better. Use Pip as a nickname.

Calliopespa · 04/09/2025 07:58

It's way outside my super-conservative bag of preferred names BUT actually I quite like it.

For me, though, I would pair it with something more staid to give her options - and I would even consider that on the BC and use her middle name (Piper) day to day. I think there is a risk of her growing up and thinking "they called me WHAT?" when she is filling out job applications.

But that's maybe me and my boring attitude to naming - and I do think its quite sweet. Makes me think of Pan or a faun...

PauliesWalnuts · 04/09/2025 07:56

I met an American woman in a youth hostel once who had a daughter called Mary Piper. They used her full name when referring to her.

This is a joke, right?

You’re not seriously considering calling a child Billie Piper?
