So far we kind if like Wren, Sage, Brooke

Sisters have Robyn and Rose, doesn't need to start with R but absolutely cannot start with F or L and preferably not A either.

Much appreciated!

Zippidydoodah · 02/09/2025 15:25

Rae. I know it’s a common middle name but I know a Rae and I love it for her. Suits her!

We have multicultural family, so here are some of our one syllable favs.

  1. Ann (English, German, Scandinavian short form of Anna)
  2. Liv (Norwegian, Swedish – meaning “life”)
  3. Lin (Scandinavian/English short form of Lina; also Chinese name meaning “forest”)
  4. Mae (English, also used in Nordic countries as a modern short name)
  5. Fay (English, also in German-speaking areas; meaning “fairy”)
  6. Svea (Swedish – one syllable in Swedish pronunciation “Sve”)
  7. June (English, also used in Scandinavia)
  8. Luz (Spanish/Italian, (from Lucia) but adopted into German and Scandinavian naming – means “light”)
  9. Ruth (English, German, Swedish – biblical name)
  10. Nyn (rare, but seen in Norway/Sweden as a short modern form, from “Nynne” or “Nina”)

Joy.
Classic, pretty and can't be shortened.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 30/08/2025 16:44

My first thought was virtue names, like Grace and Faith, until you mentioned that it can't start with an F!

Others that I've considered include Eve, Joy, Hope, Niamh, Meabh/Maeve, May, Meg, Jess, Nell, Sky, Kate, Del, Tess, Bess, Pip... I'm going off all of the female sheepdogs I know at this point...! (I draw the line for a human baby at Fly, though).

I know a little 'Bea' (short for Beatrice, but her sisters also go by the short forms of their considerably more serious birth certificate names).
