Alice or Anna

Hi All, expecting second baby girl, our toddler is named Emma. We absolutely love Anna and don’t really mind that they are similar sounding (actually we almost like it more for this) but we also like Alice.

Baby girl will absolutely be one of these 2 names, we aren’t looking for new ideas.

Which would you pick Alice or Anna

I have an Emma and an Alice! I love the way they sound together. Two beautiful, classic names that will take them anywhere.

ILoveWhales · 29/08/2025 17:19

Alice

CosyNavyLeader · 29/08/2025 17:18

I don't like any of these names, because I find them boring.

However, they are probably quite unique really with this generation, so for that reason they are good choices.

delfttulipvase · 29/08/2025 17:10

I prefer Anna but as other have said, it is very similar to Emma. Would you consider Annie? Or Anya?

You must be very old, because I don't know any 80 year olds called Alice, Anna or Emma! Old and unkind, what an unpleasant mix.

My great grandma is called Alice and shes 97

user0177561 · 29/08/2025 17:04

I prefer Alice

GetToHeaven · 29/08/2025 15:33

I prefer the name Anna but agree it’s too close to Emma. I don’t like Alice but that’s because of a school bully, not an issue with the name itself!

Much prefer Anna but find it too similar to Emma, so for that reason would pick Alice.

Yep

Emanwenym · 29/08/2025 14:43

@youalright , of the three names, only Alice was in the top 100 names for girls 80 years ago, and it was at number 70. It fell out of the top 100 until it came back in 1980.

(based on ONS data)

I assume you missed the part where people have free will to write their own opinions. Call your baby whatever you want but remember your not giving birth to an 80 year old for her sake

@Carsadv , I like both of them but prefer Alice.
I know a few sets of sisters called Anna and Emma.
Emma is lovely.

@youalright , your posts contribute nothing and show you up.

marshmallowfinder · 29/08/2025 13:48

Both v boring. Alice sounds wet too, so I'd probably have to reluctantly say Anna in that case.

Dutchhouse14 · 29/08/2025 13:18

I like both names, slight preference for Anna, but think Anna is too similar sounding to Emma so I'd go with Alice

dizzydizzydizzy · 29/08/2025 13:17

Anna. I don't think it matters whether it does or doesn't go with Emma.

MissingCrumpets · 29/08/2025 13:15

When you’re downstairs and they’re upstairs with a bit of background noise they won’t know who you are calling.
So Alice.
(I would have said Anna otherwise.)

dontforgetme · 29/08/2025 13:11

I love the name Anna. It being similar to Emma wouldn’t bother me in the slightest, they sound lovely together imo. My ds would have been Emma had he been a girl, its stunning.

Really beautiful names op.

pilates · 29/08/2025 12:49

Alice

GiddyDog · 29/08/2025 12:47

Prefer Anna on it's own but too matchy with Emma so I'd go with Alice which is also lovely name.

RosesAndHellebores · 29/08/2025 12:45

Emma and Alice
Emma and Anna

Emma and Anna are too matchy, so Alice.

MiddleAgedDread · 29/08/2025 12:39

Two of my favourite names but with Emma I would go for Alice.

user2848502016 · 29/08/2025 12:37

They’re both lovely names but I agree with others that Emma and Anna are too similar, so go for Alice

youalright · 29/08/2025 12:35

I assume you missed the part where I said we weren’t looking for new ideas and would be using either Alice or Anna for certain?

This

TallulahBetty · 29/08/2025 12:32

Anna. Alice is wet.

dontmalbeconme · 29/08/2025 12:31

I prefer Anna, but Alice goes better with Emma.
