Names like Roger and Alan…?

TeacheeTeacherson · 27/08/2025 17:08

My DH has terrible taste in names! When I had my first boy, the names he liked were Roger, Alan, Norman (!) We settled on John (as modern as he would get). I’m pregnant again, don’t know the sex yet, but looking for any boy names with a similar vibe but a bit more palatable. I like traditional/biblical names like Joseph, Thomas, Daniel FYI. Any suggestions…?

Surely not ? I can only see a 70 yr old man with square steel Framed glasses, a big nose and a large chip on his shoulder 😅

It's the whole "give you a good rogering" thing too.

How about Roger Moore or Roger Federer or Roger Taylor (the one from Duran Duran)?

Though I am watching Family Guy and there's Roger in that too. But he doesn't fit your picture either 😂

angerelle · 28/08/2025 00:14

My husband's name is Roger and his middle name is Allan! I quite like Roger as a name 😁

Any of the male-presenting (whatever that means?!) engines in Thomas the Tank Engine!

That’s what I went for. Classic names - you can’t go wrong.

Colin, Dennis, Brian, Derek? Yes, I’m reeling off my dad’s old golfing buddies 😂

Ha brilliant! I’m feeling Derek.

I've always liked John and wanted it for my son but was vetoed. I've warmed to Stephen. It's a family name. It is old and in the Bible. What about Adam?

I might be biased because my lovely dad is called Roger.

There is also a beautiful toddler called Roger at my nursery.

Whoops 🤭 sorry. I'm sure your dad is a wonderful example of a Roger 😁

Perhaps it'll have it's turn again. Stranger things have happened. Who would have thought Ivy and Florence and Daisy etc would have had a revival.

Frederick has actually grown on me, DS3 has a little friend with the name and it is quite cute :D

I also think Alfred is nice because it can be shortened to Fred or Alfie, and the meaning is the leader of the Elves which I thought was brilliant.

I also like the old spelling Aelfred but that might be a bit TOO old school.
