Help me love my babies name - PND

My son was born after a really traumatic time late pregnancy and he needed a hospital stay. I’m sure I’ve had some version of PND dealing with it and I feel I’m coming out the other side I hope. It was worth it for him being earthside but was unimaginable. One of the things is he doesn’t feel like his name. It doesn’t feel special enough, as it turns out it’s the number 1 name. I’d never heard of anyone else with this name. Maybe if it hadn’t had been number 1 it would have felt ok.

Ive read alot of name regret is tied to PND. I can’t think of any other name to call him and I don’t want to change it now. I just want to love it and use it happily with him. Well I do like other names but DH doesn’t and we have a fucking awful surname that rules out a lot of the names I did like for stupid rhyming and not sounding right with it.

So please tell me the positives about the name Noah. I don’t need to hear about him being one of 20 in his class, I am really struggling. Please be nice and only post of you can help me reframe my thinking.

Thank you

I think Noah is a great name, surely one of a handful that can’t be shortened either.

DS18 moaned to me recently his name had dropped to No.2 GrinGrin

If it’s any help, I wasn’t too sure after a brutal birth and likely mild PND. But he wears it well and suits him like a glove. I cannot imagine him being called anything else.

It's a beautiful name and I'm sure he's a beautiful baby

I have an adopted DS - he came with his name which is a name I don't like much (only my DH knows that) - HOWEVER my son had that name and it is his name and after a short while I forgot I hadn't liked it as he is that name and it's beautiful

Imagineallthepuppies · 26/08/2025 18:54

Noah is gorgeous.

Congratulations on your little one.

Talk to your health visitor/GP about birth trauma/PND. It’s so worth the conversation.

Noah is a great name its not like you called him teabag

Craftysue · 26/08/2025 18:50

It's a lovely name that suits all ages. Best wishes to you x

margegunderson · 26/08/2025 18:48

It’s a proper name not a surname pretending to be a first name. It’s a good name. People on here get hung up on popularity but it really doesn’t matter. One of mine has a really popular name and has rarely met anyone else with it in 20 years.

PenguinMama · 26/08/2025 18:45

Noah is a great name. I'm a teacher and all the Noah's I've taught have been lovely boys/young men so I have lots of positive associations.

Even though it's high in the tables, I don't know multiple ones in the same class/year group if that helps.

Sorry to hear you've had a traumatic time. I hope you're getting lots of support from friends/family (and HCP if needed), and are able to enjoy your mat leave with your gorgeous boy.

Ilikeanimalsmorethanpeople · 26/08/2025 18:43

Lovely name!

DD is 3.5 and there are no Noahs at nursery if that helps! X

Cherrycola4 · 26/08/2025 18:38

I work in a school, I’ve only ever met one Noah, he’s lovely.

It’s a really sweet name for a baby. I could also imagine it on a kind, handsome family man. It’s a classic, timeless name.

peoplegetreadyforthetrain · 26/08/2025 18:36

It’s a beautiful name and would have definitely been on my list if I’d had a boy.

Also, I’ve hardly met any and there are none that I know of at my children’s school! There are so many names these days that even the most popular are not actually that common.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 26/08/2025 18:32

I personally am very anti popular names for my own kids, but if I wasn't I'd have been allll over Noah. Such a beautiful sound and every single one I've ever met has been lovely and kind.

GetTheGoodLookingGuy · 26/08/2025 18:20

I taught a lovely Noah a couple of years ago. Boisterous, all over the place, but so kind and caring (we gave him the award for the “kindest heart” in our class end-of-year awards) amazing vocabulary, terrible handwriting, tried so hard!

It's a lovely name!

MrsPositivity1 · 26/08/2025 18:18

I love the name Noah, it’s reminds me of a gentle but strong boy.

Dontjudgeme101 · 26/08/2025 18:16

I love the name Noah in my opinion the best boy name ever! ❤️

Paaseitjes · 26/08/2025 18:12

I think it's normal to not really think of a baby with a name until they're a bit bigger. My baby is still mostly Baby or Mini rather than Name and he's 5 months old. His name seems a bit big and serious for him. Labelling stuff for nursery is making it seem real

WhereYouLeftIt · 26/08/2025 18:10

I love the name Noah! Short, easy to spell, traditional but still modern, and somewhat melodic to my ear - No- (rising) -ah (gentle sigh). A beautiful name.

I've never met a Noah, I've a vague memory that one of my DS's classmates had a little brother called Noah.

KawasakiBabe · 26/08/2025 17:48

My DS has a name that has been in the top 20 for about 300 years, no joke, very classic. I love it and it suits him. I don’t get this trend for picking unique names. Having popular names has been a thing for hundreds of years and never been a problem. And they’re popular for a reason, they are lovely.

Tbf, my DS and DH both get called by their surname with a y on the end, in fact there are a few at work who use it for me too, lol

XelaM · 26/08/2025 17:46

Noah is a beautiful name (and I usually hate names picked on Mumsnet but Noah is a beautiful classic name). I actually don't know a single Noah in real life and my daughter has gone through primary and secondary school (now Y11) without a single Noah 🤷‍♀️

PestoHoliday · 26/08/2025 17:45

A really lovely name. It's one of my favourites.

Helpmefindmysoul · 26/08/2025 17:43

Beautiful name! I wanted to name my son Noah so great choice!

SummerDayys · 26/08/2025 17:43

Oh it's a lovely name @BeatingPND. 💐 As you already know, this is your PND talking. I hope you will be able to begin to feel peace about things soon; he's your beautiful boy and his name is beautiful too.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 26/08/2025 17:42

Noah is a lovely name, kind of strong but gentle!

The only Noah I've ever come across is my nephew and I'm a teacher of many years...

greengreyblue · 26/08/2025 17:41

Noah is a lovely name. Strong, short and classless. Congratulations .Hope you can love it again and enjoy him

Spidey66 · 26/08/2025 17:41

I think Noah is a great name!

elm26 · 26/08/2025 17:40

I’ve never met a Noah but I love it! It was in our top 3 for the little boy I’m due with any day. I really hope your PND eases soon ♥️
