Baby girl due in just a few weeks and still stuck for a name, which do you prefer?

Our surname is fairly long , think Anderson.

Clara.
I like it. Short, easy to spell, easy to say, it's a very sweet name, lovely for a little one and a very nice name that will grow with your child through adulthood.

This thread made me smile. My DD is Elizabeth, known mostly as Eliza which I love. We also call her Lizzie. We’re not planning to have any more children, but if we ever did then Clara would be my top choice for a girl. Honestly I don’t think you can go wrong with either - they are both beautiful names.

@chunkybear , thanks. My inner pedant got the better of me.
I make typos quite often. Smile

@chunkybear , I think you mean they're.

Indeed I did, think that was an auto correct / momentary error as my spelling and grammar are usually pretty good and those mistakes piss me off usually too! But I’m just a meek soul and can make mistakes from time to time like anyone else lol 😂
there was a full on row on a different thread recently about someone making a grammar mistake that someone corrected so be aware it can get you some backlash - personally I’m not bothered, at 53 with a good career, educated to PhD level 25 years ago from a RG uni, I’m not proud, I can take a comment on my mistakes 🤪

Eliza

@chunkybear , I think you mean they're.

Both lovely.
Eliza has the edge for me.

chunkybear · 25/08/2025 10:27

Ciara is nicer than Clara but there both lovely names

Eenameenadeeka · 25/08/2025 10:15

Clara and Eliza are both lovely.
I prefer Eliza.
I love Claire and Clare too.
And Zara.

Emanwenym · 24/08/2025 20:51

I like Dorothy and Maud. I like Clara said as Claira but not to rhyme with Lara.

Nevertrustacop · 24/08/2025 20:33

Eliza. I hate names that can be said two ways, and I've heard Clara being pronounced Claira

SunflowerLife · 24/08/2025 20:30

Eliza. Clara is frumpy and on a par with Dorothy and Maude.

smallsilvercloud · 24/08/2025 20:28

I’m in the minority but I prefer Eliza, sounds more sophisticated to me, Clara I just think of a such a plain name.

Jibberjabba · 24/08/2025 20:20

Clara

chaiselozenges · 24/08/2025 20:19

Both are popular, I know more Claras than Elizas. Both are nice.

AudiobookListener · 24/08/2025 20:16

Clara timeless classic. So beautiful.

Eliza sounds harsh to me.

TokenGinger · 24/08/2025 19:38

Clara is lovely. Eliza is the naughty kid in my son’s class so it puts me off the name 😂

SunshineAndFizz · 24/08/2025 19:35

Clara. Not a fan of Eliza, just think Dolittle.

fairycupcakes · 24/08/2025 19:34

I think Clara is beautiful!

Mumofgirls2017 · 24/08/2025 19:27

Both lovely, narrowly prefer Clara

dogsflying · 24/08/2025 18:57

Elizabeth shortened to Eliza

SwedishEdith · 24/08/2025 18:53

Eliza. Clara is okay but dislike the Cl sound so think Lara or Cara or Cora are nicer than Clara.

Zingzoomyzingy · 24/08/2025 18:50

Both are lovely names. ❤️
