Only got a few weeks to decide!
Thanks

Leila is pronounced Lie-la by the one I know - she curses Eric Clapton for his Lay-la lol.

Leila or Leah/Lia

kslatts · 29/05/2008 19:23

I'd go for Leah.

spicemonster · 29/05/2008 19:22

I think they're all pretty but if you want Lay-ah pronounced like that, you'd be better off spelling it Laia I think. Leah is pronounced Lee-ah.

notmorerain · 29/05/2008 19:20

Wow, thanks all for responding! Glad haven't been too slated!!!!!! AS for the Layla spelling, we checked and as there is no literal arabic translation, it is perfectly acceptable and I think the nicest way to spell it!

Leah (pronounced Ley-ah) as in Princess from Star Wars is our preferred way, but do you think people will think Lee-ah??

I adore Scarlett - especially as redheads run in our family

India (Indy) is very close to our hearts!!

I didn't realise that choosing a name was so difficult - DP loves India and Leah and I love Layla and Scarlett so a real divide of opinions!

THank you all for commenting though, I am glad that this thread hasn't turned into a slagging off match, which a lot of the name threads seem to have done quite recently.

*I'm not too crazy about the "LAY" in Layla...I think of a 40ish cougar-ish band groupie in a smoky bar (sorry).

*India is beautiful, but the name would sound contrived unless, of course, you have ancestors/family ties in India, or she was conceived in India, or, if India is your favourite place to travel.
If we use a place name, I really think it ought to have a reason/meaning/purpose behind it.

*I like Scarlett and Sienna is alright.

*Leah is very pretty.

I know someone who spells that name "Lia".
-a very refreshing way to spell it.

*I also used to babysit a beautiful, sweet little girl named "Ileah"
(EYE-LEE-AH)
The extra syllable adds interest and makes it a more unique name.
Ileah Grace sounds even nicer than Leah Grace (-but, Leah Grace sounds good too)

I would say Scarlett Grace and Leah Grace are my preferences from the choices you've provided.

OverMyDeadBody · 29/05/2008 18:47

Leila will get mispronounced by some as Leeeeela or even worse Lila. Layla is the better spelling.

DonutMum · 29/05/2008 18:45

Hiya, like Layla, but agree Leila is a nicer spelling. Leah nice too. Sienna don't like - reminds me of Sienna Miller - ewww!

OverMyDeadBody · 29/05/2008 18:45

Artichokes that's a load of bollox, sorry. It's an arabic name and therefore there isn't a 'correct' spelling using the English alphabet, so it can be spelt any number of ways and still be right. Of all three main spellings I think Layla is the nicest, but you could have Leila or Leyla without it being 'wrong'. Leila often gets mispronounced if read, but that doesn't happen with Layla.

My name, and its spelling, has absolutely nothing to do with eric clapton either (bain of my life)

Notmorerain go with Layla or India. Both are lovely.

msappropriate · 29/05/2008 18:42

Layla, Sienna or Leah are nice.

I don't like India as a name; it always seems a bit colonialist to me. I don't like Scarlett either sorry. Too Gone with the Wind.

Squirdle · 29/05/2008 18:41

I'd go for Leah as it is my lovely sisters name and Grace is my middle name!

Also like Leila.

CarGirl · 29/05/2008 18:38

depends on your surname.

wessexgirl · 29/05/2008 18:37

OMG, I've got a Leah Grace! So you can't have that .

kayzisexpecting · 29/05/2008 18:35

Love India and Scarlett

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/05/2008 18:32

Scarlett, Leah or Layla.

minniedot · 29/05/2008 18:23

India Grace

Elmosgirl · 29/05/2008 18:18

I like all of them although least keen on Leah and Sienna

Dozymare · 29/05/2008 18:17

do you pronounce Leah (ley-ar or Lee-ah)

does that make sense??

i also like India!

bubblagirl · 29/05/2008 18:16

i love layla grace

Collision · 29/05/2008 18:15

Scarlett

VictorianSqualor · 29/05/2008 18:14

Leah Grace, I love Leah it was a toss up between Leah and Clara for us if we had a DD
(until the day before when we added jessica/charlotte to the mix)

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 29/05/2008 18:14

My (non transferable) vote would be for Leah.

I like Leah and Scarlett.

Layla should be spelt Leila, Layla is just a misspelling that Eric Clapton came up woith. It is an Arabic name. I think it is lovely if you have Arabic connections.

seeker · 29/05/2008 18:11

Grace is a seriously cool name. I love Leah but I don;t think it goes with Grace. Don't like any of the others much - sorry. India Grace is the best of a not brilliant bunch. Sorry.
