Baby girl names… peach?

PollyD123 · 13/08/2025 15:10

I’m due in a few weeks with a baby girl and struggling to find a name. I’ve swapped it constantly throughout the months and just don’t like anything. I was recently set on Lena but have realised how common it actually is, which puts me off a little bit. I recently heard the name peach and absolutely love it but after reading a lot of forums people seem to think it’s silly? I know it doesn’t matter what other people think but I don’t know if it’s too out there?! Thoughts?

I really like Peach but….

I would like to think that not everyone would be as shallow to judge her on her name when she’s older and instead judge her on how kind/caring/professional (I’m hoping) she’ll be.

You have done exactly that regarding Jayden/Kayden because of a few that you know. FWIW I’m not a fan of those names and wouldn’t use them myself but wouldn’t judge a person based on their name which is exactly what you have said that you want for your daughter. The parents might be using drugs but you can’t judge everyone who shares/uses that name by those parents standards.

It is a shame that you have had so many not so nice replies but people tend to feed off of the tone set by the op which has completely derailed your request for thoughts on a nice name for your daughter.

Have you considered Clementine or Mirabelle?

In regards to my tone, if you were being told
youre basically abusing your child because of their name would your tone not be off also? If you read the comments from the not so nasty individuals you would see my tone is quite calm and polite, because that’s the type of person I am other than when I’m getting told my ‘poor’ child will have a miserable life due to the name I have chosen for her. No, I don’t like those names, I guess everyone is different.

OP, you sound quite hostile. Hope you'll mellow once the baby arrives, otherwise you may have a differcult time ahead.
P.S Peach is a ridiculous name.

Oh I didn’t realise you had super powers and could tell how a person is. I’ve had a lovely pregnancy, thank you for your concern though. Maybe it’s coming across hostile as I have people saying I’m basically abusing my child by giving her a different name. Thank you for your concern though, it’s not really wanted :)

My dog is called Peach. I love it….for my dog. I don’t know many surgeons or lawyers called Peach, remember that a name carries them through life ❤️

Why do you think we're all "older" and what does "older" mean op? Were you being rude and judgemental?

The beauty of posting on the baby names topic is that you'll get unfiltered responses ie the things people will think irl whilst nodding and saying "oh how lovely".

My great uncle was nicknamed Peach. His actual name was Jack but he liked peaches 🤷‍♀️

Don’t like it, would lump it in same bucket as Jayden/Kayden names, sorry. If her surname is a double barrelled Spanish name why not pick a Spanish first name, there are so many beautiful Spanish girls names! I like Lena too fwiw, or Lana/Leah etc. There are a million possibilities between an out there name like Peach and boring Olivia (no offence to all the Olivias, my daughter also has a very common/top ten name).

Catparty · 13/08/2025 17:19

Peach is a bit too fruity imo. If Peaches - there is an association with Bob Geldof’s late daughter. Have you considered Paloma? Not very overused at present and pretty imo.

Phphion · 13/08/2025 17:18

In 2023, 55 babies in England and Wales were named Peach or Peaches and 172 were named Lena, so not really a big difference in the likelihood of either being one of six in their class.

Isthisthisreallife · 13/08/2025 17:16

Not a fan on Peach. Definitely more nickname vibes for me.
As for Lena being popular… it’s not where I am from and it was on my list so I love it.
I’m a teacher and also didn’t want 10 other kids with the same name as my dd. I chose a name that I thought was unpopular but it seems all the women having babies that year had the same idea because there they all popped up in baby classes we went to so it doesn’t always work out how you’d expect anyway!

You might like to think that, but you have been scathing about names yourself so are you hoping the rest of the world are better people than you are?

I don't dislike it. I knew a woman name Cherry who was at a very high level in her profession so presumably hadn't been held back by being named after a fruit.

shedroof · 13/08/2025 17:09

I think it’s perfectly fine to name your child after a fruit and it’s fine to want something that stands out from the crowd, however , as others have pointed out, the peach emoji is slang for arse. You’d be naive to think this wouldn’t impact your child as kids basically speak to each other in emojis. For this reason I’d bin peach but consider other options, a pp suggested cherry or Mirabelle, both as lovely

Flosnana · 13/08/2025 17:08

Peach is pretty and a lot more ‘normal’ than many names given today. It will suit her age as she grows. I remember someone rejecting ‘Jamie’ as it was fine for a baby, but wouldn’t suit a teenager or a man! My grandson had a Jayden, Kayden and Brayden in his class. Princess Anne has a granddaughter called Lena. Congratulations on your imminent arrival x

It seems it’s not just children that can be cruel but women as well 😂 peach is just an idea, one of many that I’ve had. I just wanted some opinions without what I can only presume (older women) giving nasty comments on how I’m basically abusing my child 😂 I would definitely consider a nickname though.

I'm interested in why you a) made the assumption that people who disagree with you on here are older and b) think that's relevant? Coupled with your view that certain names are 'chavvy' I think you maybe need to look at yourself before accusing others of being cruel 😂

PollyD123 · 13/08/2025 16:46

My daughters father knows 3 and the health visitor I saw this morning knows of two.. think it just put me off a little

I think it might be more high profile because Zara Tindall named her second daughter Lena

Silversaxo · 13/08/2025 17:07

Call your baby what you want. This notion that children get bullied for their name is no longer true. If you listened to most mumsnetters they would have you call your child Charlotte, Olivia, Ava (etc….repeat boring and mundane name) and be one of 3 in the class.

DuckPuddledJemima · 13/08/2025 17:04

Peaches isn't a grown up name that future employers would probably give serious chances to.
However I don't consider my name common but thanks for that 😉

DangerousAlchemy · 13/08/2025 17:03

I just asked my DD 21 what she thought of the name Peach & whether she'd like to be called that. She just laughed and said God no, it's an awful name. There are plenty of unusual great names out there. Your baby DD will grow up to be a teenager/young woman etc - she won't be a cute baby forever so don't give her a cute baby name.

Alexandrine · 13/08/2025 17:03

If she will have a Spanish last name, how about pretty Paloma as a first name? There were only 40 born in the last set of name data, so unlikely to be another one in school. I can’t see you why you couldn’t call her “Peach” as a nickname.

Or Georgia? As in the saying “Georgia Peach” . Though there are closer to 400 girls named Georgia last year, it would still be statistically unlikely to have another in class.

Stichintime · 13/08/2025 17:01

Princess Peach from Mario springs to mind!
I've never met a Lena (or taught one in 26 years as a primary school teacher).
I am not a fan of 'trendy' noun type names. My step daughter is called Honey and her brother used to call her bee excrement!
For what it's worth, I think Lena is a lovely name- a proper name but slightly out of the ordinary. I can imagine a baby, school child, teen, adult and OAP Lena. It would age well and always sound beautiful.

I do like it and I’ve never taught one either but it just seems to be other people saying it’s quite common at their/their children’s schools.

I knew a little girl called Evangeline with the nickname Peaches. She was adorable and both names suited. Would you consider a nickname? I like Peaches but the reality is kids can be cruel and I would worried she would be teased.

Don’t you know how Peaches Geldof died? Jadens and Kadens aren’t the only ones doing drugs…

I didn’t know peaches geldoff. I know the 3 Jayden/kayden’s that I’m in daily contact with putting them in isolation.

I mean would you not judge the same 3 jaydens and Kayden’s who abuse and all do drugs the same?
