Baby girl due early December. Thought I would share my shortlist of names to see what votes they receive. In no particular order here is my list.
Delilah
Lyra
Violet
Skye

Struggling to understand how Skye is a ‘silly’ name… but Lyra isn’t!

ChocolateCinderToffee · 13/08/2025 21:28

In order of preference:
Delilah
Violet
Lyra
Skye (I wouldn't even consider this one tbh)

MovingBird123 · 13/08/2025 14:30

Delilah is a beautiful sounding name, but I would wholly judge someone for using it - don't they know who Delilah was?

Lyra is nice, quite trendy at the moment. Violet gives me a bit of a headache, and Skye is a bit silly.

applegingermint · 13/08/2025 11:01

Delilah - awful. Why would you name your child after a biblical seductress who betrayed her lover for money?

Violet, Lyra are both beautiful.

If you like Skye, what about Brooke?

Skye is my favourite.

I also liike Lila, Lyla and Adele

Sadieautumn · 12/08/2025 21:22

I absolutely love Delilah.

I love the name Skye

Alexandrine · 12/08/2025 17:34

Skye is my fave- pretty and underused but the Paw Patrol reference may be a positive or a negative depending on your child.

The others are too trendy for me, sorry (I don’t mind popular names as such if they are more classic, but I hate trends as I think they often date).

HugoYorway · 12/08/2025 17:30

Delilah - awful
Lyra - don't like it at all
Violet - it's OK, will be Vi
Skye - awful

Moreteaandchocolate · 12/08/2025 16:19

Lovely list!

My order is-

  1. Lyra - love this - so simple, pretty and suits all ages well.
  2. Delilah - getting more popular and so the association with the Tom Jones song is fading for me. It’s got lovely nn options and a pretty sound.
  3. Violet - lovely name. I’m slightly put off by the violent soundalike.
  4. Skye - nice name, maybe a bit “hippy” for my taste.
eekwhatnow · 12/08/2025 15:58

Adore Skye, others pretty too but Skye my favourite

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 12/08/2025 15:56

I really like Delilah (and there are several songs) and Violet. Not so keen on the others.

Plastictreees · 12/08/2025 15:53

Violet.

JDM625 · 12/08/2025 13:09

How many syllables in your surname? These names have everything from 1 syllable to 3 so will each flow differently with your surname.

Delilah- Reminds me of the Tom Jones song and I just think 'Why, why, why'. In my mind, I think of an elderly lady or a very negative connection with the bible. Sorry this is my least favourite from your list.
Lyra- I always read/hear it as Lycra or Liar
Violet- Love
Skye- Love

Some others: Noelle, Brooke, Amber, Coralie, Holly/Hollie, Natalie/Natalia

Duvetcover01 · 12/08/2025 13:01

Violet

LonelyMom123 · 12/08/2025 13:00

Violet is lovely. Quite like Lyra but not a fan of the other names.

mrssprout · 12/08/2025 12:56

I love Violet
