We are due in October so I’ve still got a little bit of time to fully decide.

This is our short list (although it is not that short) some names have been inspired from threads I’ve seen on here, and some I’ve loved for years.

Our shortlist is:

  • Thea
  • Ivy
  • Nara
  • Cassia
  • Aliya / Alia
  • Eira
  • Mila
  • Gia

Thank you :)

Not keen on Nara, love Thea and Ivy

I would only use Eira with a family connection to Wales and Gia with a connection to Italy but they're both pretty.

Firebird83 · 13/08/2025 21:53

Cassia or Nara. The others are a bit “meh”

Cuddlesup · 12/08/2025 20:02

Ivy. Just Ivy.

YourWinter · 12/08/2025 19:32

Ivy. Thea is ok, the others look like names you’d give a poodle, not a daughter!

Gothamcity · 12/08/2025 09:44

I like Cassia. Lots of scope for nicknames, and not too common, sounds classy, and suits a child as well as an adult. The only one I dislike is Mila, as it's so so overused where we are (4 I personally know of) , and half pronounce it My-la, and the other half Me-la, and I never remember the pronunciation for each one. My kids are constantly telling me no mum, that was Me-la, not My-la, so maybe not an issue for other kids, but the parents may get confused, especially if you end up with another one with the other pronunciation nearby!

The best on your list are Cassia, Thea and Mila.

I prefer ..
Cassandra, Cassie, Cynthea, Camilla, Theodora, Millicent.

Mumofgirls2017 · 12/08/2025 07:58

Ivy, Cassia or Thea

Emanwenym · 11/08/2025 19:36

I don't like any of them.
I like Cassie and Gina.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 11/08/2025 19:34

I like Cassia, followed by Eira.

Radiowaawaa · 11/08/2025 19:16

Thea or Ivy. Not keen on the rest.

DustlandFairytaleBeginning · 11/08/2025 19:15

i think a lot probably depends on your surname. Cassia is lovely but quite 'fussy'- I'm not sure many surnames would go.

Gia is beautiful if you have an Italian surname. I like Nara too.

YaWeeFurryBastard · 11/08/2025 19:12

Do you need two names since “we” are due? Are both you and your partner expecting?

I like Ivy and Thea

Norastroud · 11/08/2025 19:10

Ivy and Thea are my favourites from your list x

Firsttimebabymummy · 11/08/2025 18:50

Cassia is lovely. Would be my choice!

Not keen i.n the rest although Thea is OK, just 'trendy'.

LivingTheDreamish · 11/08/2025 18:04

Cassia

BoleynMemories13 · 11/08/2025 17:43

Ivy is the only one I like.

Thea should be nice, but so many can't pronounce it properly and say 'fear'. That would annoy me.

Cassia is ok, but a bit fussy.

Mila is ok but a very trendy 'of the moment' name. There are loads around me.

I'm really not keen on the others.

Alexandrine · 11/08/2025 17:33

Cassia or Eira for me as I think both are beautiful.

Eira might depend on where you live though- where I am in Wales it’s well known and always pronounced “Ay-ra” but you might have issues elsewhere. Cassia is unlikely to have that problem (I suppose you might get the odd “Cah-shah?” if it’s mistaken for Kasia but that would probably be rare).

Third choice would be Gia - simple, pretty and surprisingly underused in the UK and likely no pronunciation or spelling problems.

Nara is okay but I much prefer the sound of similar Mara. And Thea also fine, again just prefer similar Theia. Alia/Aliya is also nice but the variety of spellings will be a pain. Mila is okay but feels quite trendy atm.

The only one of your choices I dislike is Ivy - I’m surprised it’s on the list as it’s a very different style to the others, as it’s super trendy “Anglo Grandma chic” (which is not my taste).

popbingo · 11/08/2025 17:07

Cassia

FullOfMomsense · 11/08/2025 17:06

Cassia

But Gia only if you're Italian!

Lazydaze123 · 11/08/2025 17:03

First time I read a list where I actually like them all 🥰 they are all lovely names

Oceangrey · 11/08/2025 17:02

Thea

I'm not a fan of the name Ivy but there are lots of baby Ivys! It's an extremely popular name (top 5 in England and Wales in 2024) and has been popular for a while now.

Oh I know, I just don’t understand why. But I don’t get the old lady name thing at all, lol.

MyMilchick · 11/08/2025 16:47

Thea

Purplecatshopaholic · 11/08/2025 16:41

Cassia is lovely. Ivy (poison?) is bloody awful, a baby Ivy? Ooft, don’t do that to your child! The rest are somewhere in the middle.

Ivy. It's a strong sounding name.
I feel like our daughters need strong names in the future. 💪
