Non-flower girl names

FunnyOrca · 08/08/2025 16:11

Hello,

We are hoping to welcome a baby girl in the coming months. I am drawn to the flowery girls names (Rosie, Flora, Iris) but unfortunately our surname is a synonym for a plant and any of these style of names sounds like a character from a book rather than someone’s actual name.

I was hoping you might have some suggestions that perhaps have a similar feel without being flower or plant names?

Edited to add: Husband is very practical. His picks on names are all very much names that have been top 20 for at least 20 years.

I love Elsa too - I think the Disney connection is getting weaker by the day. The movie came out in 2013 after all.

I don’t think I could go with Elsa sorry OP. It’s a bit like calling her Moana.

Non-floral nature names:

Brooke
Marina
Aurora
Ruby
Summer
Pearl
Luna
Robyn
Celeste
Estelle
Selena
Opal
Phoebe
Coral
Gaia
Isla
Paloma

Or perhaps Bryony, Jacinta, Ione, or Viola, which are not as obviously associated with flowers as Flora and Iris

Edited

Thank you. I think this is what I really wan! Unfortunately a lot of these names are too “out there” for my husband but there are lots I adore on this list!

Thank you for so many suggestions.

I really like Alice, Eliza, Coralie, Emily, Lucy, Madeleine, Sophie, Clara, Clementine and Zoe.

I also love Elsa which I see mentioned. Does anyone think the Disney connection is too strong?

I’m so picky, partly because I’m a teacher so there are some lovely names mentioned above that just have such strong associations (positive too!) with specific children.
