Eliza, Georgina, Nancy, nothing feels quite right

I'm trying to name my second daughter and nothing seems to be quite right. Current front runners are Eliza, Georgina and Nancy but I worry they're not quite 'special' enough (that's probably not the perfect way to phrase it). I met someone the other day whose daughters were Vesper and Daphne and I thought they just had a bit more magic about them, but then it feels a bit dicey to chose an unusual, romantic name for a child who might be a solid and sensible type. Has anyone got any ideas? I also love Cecily, Margot and Phoebe but can't use them for various reasons.

I see what you mean but children don’t watch Scooby Doo any more.

MrsSkylerWhite · 15/08/2025 12:14

As a woman of a certain age, to me Daphne will always mean Scooby Do 😄

I also really like Daphne.

I love Nancy. It's gorgeous.

In place of Margot - Marianne, Mariella, Mabel, Marla,.(I much prefer all of these). Also Pearl (Margot meaning).
PP mentioned Estella which was long my favourite girl's name and I still love
In place of Phoebe - Felicity, Petra, Thea (Dorothea?)

I was to be called Nancy after an aunt but my dad said no - i used to thank my lucky stars because the girl at school called Nancy was called "nanny goat"

I wanted Laelia if we had a girl, although would have been a pain for them to spell out the rest of their life, so perhaps luckily had a boy.

I also like Willabelle.

I think Emmeline is really sweet.

I also like Evangeline - which I think is "special."

Naomi is lovely; a bit different but not too unusual

Daphne is a pretty flower, but I think quite a heavy-sounding name? I also suspect it would get shortened to Daff (as in Daffy Duck?).

Vesper I think is bordering on made-up as a name? Is it a name?

I think you are on much firmer ground with Eliza or Georgina.
