Well, I like Susan. Very 1940s glamour. Very Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe. If I had another baby and it was a girl i would seriously consider it.

squeaver · 01/06/2008 22:26

And Nicola

And Lesley

squeaver · 01/06/2008 22:25

Actually I think these "old ladies" (Doris etc) names will be back pretty soon. The ones that will take a good couple of generations to return are the ones from my time (I'm 40). Go on, I dare any of you pregnant MNetters to call your new borns:

Mandy
Elaine
Diane
Jill
Wendy
Gillian
Deborah
Patricia
Eileen
Aileen
Alison
Kat rina
Susan
Paula
Jan

(all taken from my friends reunited page)

MsDemeanor · 01/06/2008 22:23

I think Susan is very pretty and will be revived very soon. Suzy is gorgeous. What's wrong with Jane and Melissa? Or indeed Alison, Gemma, Georgina or most of the others.
I don't much care for Lee or Darryl because they are modern (I like traditional names with hisory). Think the others are totally acceptable. I know little Jamies and Rorys, and think Peter, christopher etc are great.

Bink · 01/06/2008 22:14

7 or so years ago I met someone with a newborn called Tony.

At the time it seemed so surreal that the room spun about me for a moment. However, weirdly, now it doesn't seem so very odd. So - for instance - I can absolutely imagine, and even like the idea of, an Edwin.

Wendy, on the other hand ...

Pinkjenny · 29/05/2008 15:40

Gavin

LynetteScavo · 29/05/2008 15:32

pinkorblue - My DH seriously sugested Dawn for DD!

schneebly · 29/05/2008 13:30

yes that what I was thinking In all reality DH named them after we made a stupid agreement that he could name any boys we might have and I would name any girls we have.

So far 2 boys lol!

GreenElizabeth · 29/05/2008 07:42

Schneebly, I'm not taking the michael here! These are the names I like. I think they are cool because they are not following fashion they're ahead of it!

schneebly · 28/05/2008 23:02

GreenElizabeth - if we were in sainsbo's with you my DS1 would come running DS2 has a very unfashionable name too

DS1 - 70 year old Scottish farmer
DS2 - 50 year old accountant

pinkorblue · 28/05/2008 22:56

My dad suggested Dawn for a girl!

EachPeachPearMum · 28/05/2008 22:51

I do know a child called Bertram poor wee thing!
pmsl @ Phyllis (re anti-biotics, I'm sure all Phyllises are lovely ladies)

Anchovy · 28/05/2008 22:39

My dad is called Desmond. I think that must be the most resistant-to-a-comeback name there is. I really cannot imagine a 4 year old called that

GreenElizabeth · 28/05/2008 22:27

Keith. OOOh. They love Keith and Gavin in America though.

Eunice, Gladys, Glynnis not my cup of tea, but if Carys is out there, I don't see why Gladys couldn't come back. Glynnis is ok actually.

Phyllis is too dodgy. I need anti-biotics. I won't be in on Monday because I've got Phyllis

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 21:58

gladys?
glynnis
phyllis?

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 21:57

pmsl @ Keith!!!

does Kevin qualify too?

EachPeachPearMum · 28/05/2008 21:56

Eunice and Keith

GreenElizabeth · 28/05/2008 20:55

Wow. He's fierce. But I like him just as much and maybe more than Barney the dinosaur, Rory the racing car or Finley the fire engine!!

Every name is a character it seems.

CrushWithEyeliner · 28/05/2008 20:49

what about Edwin

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 20:49

for GreenElizabeth

meet bruce!!!

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 20:48

what is this 'asda' you speak of greenElizabeth is it where the staff go to do their shopping?!?

Nemo is a common person(a la moi!) entertainment in the form of moving pictures on a screen about a little fish and a big shark called bruce

GreenElizabeth · 28/05/2008 20:42

I'll be in trouble for saying this, but you wouldn't hear those names in Asda

OK throw things at me. I'll duck.

GreenElizabeth · 28/05/2008 20:40

I love Ranald, Donald (and still Bruce, Frankie and Victor). I haven't seen Nemo.

OK, I;m going to stand in Sainsbury's tomorrow and call out "Bruce, Frankie, Ranald, Victor, Donald, come here ALL of you right now!"

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 20:31

pmsl - bruce!!!!!

Ronald?

I love love LOVE Sylvia but dh won't even consider it for this dc if a girl - apparently she was their school bike

CrushWithEyeliner · 28/05/2008 20:31

Valerie gosh yes, also Vincent

Doreen must be said with the emphasis on reeen it is a beautiful name and one I hope comes back. What about Michelle, Ruth, Lisa, KerryAnn, Melissa
