Baby girl name Bonnie?

This is baby number three and our last baby. I really like the name but I am concerned about the formality of it.

Does anybody know of any full names that Bonnie could be a NN for?

The family with 14 kids on YT just named her baby Bonnie. My friends dog is called Bonnie. I don’t know any others.

Bonnie is overwhelmingly popular at the moment, I know lots under 3. It's in the top 30 UK baby names at the moment. I wouldn't use it for that reason over the bonnie blue association

It's more popular than that now. It has risen 10 places in the latest 2024 data, to 16th. However, I'm fascinated that popularity puts you off a name more than a connection to a famous porn star.

That's Bonio

Oh. Bonita would be better: "Bone-eater" (and they are bone-shaped!)

You're so right! Mind you, Aldi version is probably Bonito.

For the PP, Bonita means 'pretty' in Spanish. There's lots of names meaning beautiful / pretty which we use from other languages.

Isn't Bonita the name of those bone shaped dog biscuits?

I’ve known loads of dogs and ponies called Bonnie and the only human I know of called it is a horrible.

My dog was called Bonnie. It's not a name is use now because of Bonnie Blue.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 06/08/2025 23:18

I’ve never heard of Bonnie blue 🤷‍♀️

I love the name Bonnie, could be a nn for Bronwyn.

tooloololoo · 06/08/2025 22:56

Bonnie blue

lefloose · 06/08/2025 22:56

Instantly think of Bonnie Blue every time I hear this name sorry…

I know a lovely Bonnie (full name Bonita). However, if you've been put off, 'Blythe' is in a similar vein and also lovely. I was just reading the 'Monday's child is fair of face' rhyme today and 'The child that's born on the sabbath day is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.' My DD said "I thought Bonny and Blythe were names, " so I had to explain where they come from.

Bonstance (sorry!). Bonnie is sweet.

IrisArbuthnot · 06/08/2025 20:03

My Gran always said Bonnie to mean plump so that always put me off.

PennyAnnLane · 06/08/2025 19:53

Bonnie means pretty or attractive so I’d steer clear just in case she (as an adult) isn’t or doesn’t want to be pretty, it would be a bit like someone who’s dour and miserable being called Joy.

Zov · 06/08/2025 16:02

Bonnie Blue.

No.

I had a manger called Bonnie no one took her seriously because of her name and it really doesnt suit her as an adult she admits that herself

ThatCleverCoralCrow · 04/08/2025 21:40

I knew a cat named Bonnie 🐈

Namesheardinthewild · 04/08/2025 18:55

Know a few Bonnie’s of varying ages, but this is in Scotland. Haven’t read the full thread so not sure where you are OP. I like it ❤️

naomisno1fan · 04/08/2025 18:43

Not now. She’s ruined the name.

Loubyloufootball · 04/08/2025 18:42

I love the name Bonnie! My son is Y5 and a girl named Connie spoke to him the other week and I said “that’s a really lovely name”.

Just reminded me of a woman I used to work with with daughter called Bonnie who must be 30 now.

I wouldn’t even think about porn or social media crap. I don’t even know who she is!

user1492757084 · 04/08/2025 15:36

Bonita

Bonnie is fine as a name in it's own right.

AprilAndFliss · 04/08/2025 12:25

I like it, sweet and makes me think of "Bonnie lass" however I would avoid for about 10 years until the whole OnlyFans thing blows over but that's just me

HotTiredDog · 04/08/2025 12:22

No, please don’t - the association with that woman & her own set of values / problems is just too strong.

DanDin · 04/08/2025 12:22

@OSTMusTisNT Bronwyn is a bad spelling of Bronwen. In Welsh, the -wyn ending is masculine.
