Eliza or Florence?

Eliza with Elle or Ellie for short
Florence with Florry (sp?) for short

I like names that can be shortened - so that you can have a formal name for work and an informal name for friends & family.

I like flora too - but am put off by the "spreads easily" comments she might get when she's older

Well, I love Flora and I quite like Florence, but Florrie sounds like a stuffed toy. Or an old aunt with thick ankles who accidentally wets herself. Hang on. That was MY great aunt.

Flora/Florence is lovely though.

Eliza is gorgeous. I wouldn't shorten it to Ellie. I'll rank them.

Flora
Eliza
Ellie
Florrie

JodieG1 · 28/05/2008 16:10

I love Florence, it was my nan's name and is my dd's middle name.

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 16:09

hoxtonchick · 28/05/2008 16:09

Enid · 28/05/2008 16:08

just trying to be subtle

JessJess3908 · 28/05/2008 16:07

Thank you.

Belgo - hello again DP's ex g'friend was Liz so Lizzie is a bit too close for comfort!

Am glad lots of you like flossie. Hadn't really thought of it as nan has always been flo.

Will probably be Eliza Florence... but she may look more like a little Flo.

Or could be boy

Flossie is really cute wessexgirl. I am toying with the name as I am pregnant again but didn't like Florry as an abbreviation.

JessJess3908 · 28/05/2008 15:23

My nan is flo - she hates it but i love it!

Sunshinemummy · 28/05/2008 15:22

I like both - but prefer Flo as shorthand for Florence.

wessexgirl · 28/05/2008 15:21

I love Florence; prefer it shortened as Flossie though.

belgo · 28/05/2008 15:21

I like Eliza. And Lizzie for short.
