Girls (thinking of Jane as middle name, family name)

Rosie

Thanks all! :)

My Mum is called Dorothy but gets called Dot. Dottie is a bit of an insult I think? As in 'don't ask Rosie for advice, she's a bit dottie'. I'd avoid it for this reason!

Emanwenym · 28/07/2025 12:01

Could you use Jane as a first name?

My favourite of your boy's names is Isaac but I can't unsee 'i suck willy'. Sorry.

Edited

Oh dear, yes Isaac Williams might not work.

I like Kit Williams and Rosie Williams (though I'd probably go for Rose Williams, nn Rosie.)

Cocktailsandcheese · 04/08/2025 12:39

Rosie Williams would be perfect for a girl.

I like most of your boys names except for Navy and Sonny. My favourites are probably Ralph and Jude.

AdaColeman · 03/08/2025 12:03

I quite like Ralph, though I prefer Rafe.
I'm not keen on the rest of your list, my least favourites are Navy and Sonny.

I really love Dulcie.
I'm not keen on the rest of your list, they seem more like nicknames, which will be cute while the child is little, but won't really work when they're grown up

PeachPumpkin · 03/08/2025 11:48

I really like Ralph. I dislike all the girls names in your list, but then we’re all different. Have you looked at the ‘Rose’ variations? Rosa, Rosalie, Rosalind, Roseline etc. I’m not overkeen on the ‘Dul’ in Dulcie. Goldie sounds like a nickname. Dottie sounds like it could lead to teasing, but I’m well aware that children can pick on anything.

MirandaBlu · 03/08/2025 11:43

I really like Elijah with your last name. I'd also think about a three-syllable first name for a girl, for example Rosalie, Rosemary (or Rosalind, but not as nice with Jane as the "n" kind of repeats) with Rosie for short.

StarlightBlues · 03/08/2025 11:34

I love Jude for a boy. I like the rest of them except for Navy.

Jude Henry Williams
Jude Oliver Williams
Jude Ryan Williams
Jude Frederick Williams

For a girl I like Rosie and Dulcie. Both go well with Jane and your surname.

Other suggestions - Ezra, Arlo, Brody, Luca, Saul
Maisie, Billie, Darcie, Emilie

CravingPotNoodle · 03/08/2025 07:35

Ralph - favourite.
Kit - awful. where’s your sports kit, Kit. Could be nicknamed Kitty.
Navy - ridiculous. At least the surname isn’t Blue.
Isaac - nope.
Jude - Hey Jude, Nah, nah, nah…
Elijah - nope. Sounds like liar.
Sonny - nope.

Girl, you’re naming a baby (who will grow up to be an adult) not a puppy!
Rosie - cute but common,
Dulcie - nope. Dull as dishwater.
Dottie - nope.
Goldie - nope.

LoudPlumDog · 29/07/2025 12:50

Isaac Benjamin Williams

Rose Amelia Jane Williams

Boys

Love - Isaac
Like - Jude, Elijah
Ok - Kit, Ralph
Not keen - Sonny, Navy

Girls

Love - Rosie
Ok - Dulcie
Dislike - Dottie, Goldie

I agree with this poster!
Kit would be a nice nickname for Christopher or Christian and Dottie a reasonable nickname for Dorothy or Dorothea but I dislike nicknames as given names in general.

Sugargliderwombat · 29/07/2025 03:42

Ralph and Rosie, so cute but also nice adults names.

I think middle names should have some kind of meaning, maybe your name?

mathanxiety · 29/07/2025 03:27

Kit, Isaac, Rosie, and Goldie are my favourites.

Namesy · 29/07/2025 03:24

I dislike the boy names Ralph and Navy. Rosie is the only girl name that doesn’t sound like a pet name.

mammat72 · 29/07/2025 03:09

Boys (open to middle name suggestions)
Ralph Wreck It
Kit Kat
Navy GOD NO
Isaac i suck a willy
Jude its ok
Elijah basic but nice
Sonny chavy
i would have Reid Williams

Girls (thinking of Jane as middle name, family name)
Rosie sweet Rosie
Dulcie coffee machine
Dottie not keen
Goldie golden retriever

That's what we're here for, @JillyGiraffe . Most threads focus on first names or first and middle names, but IRL it's Firstname Surname and initials that matter.
And regardless of the posters who say children don't make fun of names, I don't think they'd not notice something like Isaac Cox, Thomas Watt or Ewan Kerr.

Wow! It’s a good job this was spotted..!

miniaturepixieonacid · 28/07/2025 16:42

Ralph - not keen. Some people also seem to want to pronounce it Rafe which is weird.
Kit - like it as a nn for Christopher. Not sure about it as a standalone.
Navy - I have never heard this used as a name. But I have heard several other colours and shades so I guess there's no reason why not. I'm not that keen on it thogh.
Isaac- really like it
Jude - like it
Elijah - really like it
Sonny - like it. It seems a bit nicknamey but I don't know what the long version would be.

Rosie - really like it. I might be tempted to put Rosanna, Rosalie or Rosemary on the birth certificate but Rosie is very cute and pretty as a standalone too.
Dulcie - really like it. Cute but also a bit quirky.
Dottie - like it as a nickname for Dorothy but don't really like Dorothy. I don't think Dottie on its own is really a name though.
Goldie - I have heard this as a name but only from the 1920s/30s. It's cute though, I quite like it. Probably a bit nicknamey.

I actually think pretty much anything goes with Williams.

Emanwenym · 28/07/2025 16:25

Babies called Navy in England & Wales since 1996
It is a name apparently, but seems very new, and unisex.
Is there a reason why it came into use?

LucasBuck · 28/07/2025 16:19

Isaac and Elijah are very nice - I personally prefer Isaac as it feels slightly more classic to me but both are good picks. Sorry not keen on your other boys choices as I don’t like trendy names like Jude, Sonny or Kit (they will likely date), Ralph always reminds me of vomiting, and Navy sounds silly to me (although I admit I do really love Kit as a nn for Christopher).

I’m afraid I also dislike your girls choices as they feel like pets names to me, apart from maybe Rosie (which can be shortened to Rose as an adult if she wants something more elegant sounding imo) - so that would be my pick of those.

user1492757084 · 28/07/2025 15:07

My choices would be.

Isaac Charles Williams
Ralph Michael Williams
Rosemary or Rosie Jane Williams
Dulcie Jane Williams

Boys second name options ..
Hanry. Alexander, Patrick, Charles, Michael, family names ..

elliesmummy19 · 28/07/2025 13:56

Congratulations! I’m rubbish at thinking up similar names so I’ll just rate the ones you like.

Ralph- not a fan
Kit- I like it
Navy- hate, sorry
Isaac- Like
Jude- love!
Elijah- like
Sonny- wouldn’t be a name I would choose but I actually really like it

Girls (thinking of Jane as middle name, family name)
Rosie- love!
Dulcie- don’t like at all, sorry
Dottie- love!
Goldie- I hate it. I think it’s because I had a bird called Goldie as a child though so feels like a bird’s name to me

Mumofgirls2017 · 28/07/2025 13:14

I like kit, and Dottie (though prefer Christopher and Dorothy as longer versions with the nn)

kit alexander
kit sebastian
kit oliver
kit apollo
kit harrison
kit barnaby
kit elias

dottie juliet
dottie marigold
dottie beatrix
dottie matilda
dottie violet
dottie eloise
dottie pearl
dottie eliza
dottie mabel

Limonades · 28/07/2025 12:21

I like Ralph and Rosie

Isaac is indeed teased with I Suck, and having Williams as a surname only invites more teasing!

Emanwenym · 28/07/2025 12:01

Emanwenym · 28/07/2025 11:50

Ralph - middle name Vaughan? no
Kit - no
Navy - absolutely not
Isaac - ok
Jude - not keen
Elijah - not keen
Sonny - no

Jane as middle name - a filler middle name for those of us over 45 years of age
Rosie - fine
Dulcie- dreadful
Dottie - Dot is good
Goldie - no
