Oliver Boliver Butt after Dr Seuss’s Too Many Daves

LucasBuck · 25/07/2025 22:04

In theory, Ori or Lev is a definite possibility since all the letters are there in Oliver - and I think they sound much nicer nn’s (perhaps because they are used as names in their own right). But you’d have to introduce it from Day 1 I think, as Ol/Olly is definitely the go-to.

Olliebobs is one that randomly happened which turned into bobsy 😂😂

FettleOfKish · 25/07/2025 21:38

Our Oliver is mostly Oliver but occasionally Oli, Ol, Ols, Olive, Pickle or Goose. I know an Oliver whose friends call him a nickname which is a contraction of Oliver and his surname.

It always fascinates me the amount of pregnant women who come on here pre planning nicknames. Forcstarters, a shortening of any names such as Olly for a Oliver isn't a nickname, it's just a shortened names. Secondly, nicknames tend to evolve spontaneously and often bear no relation to the child's name and are just cute pet names. Thirdly, nicknames tend to evolve naturally when you're interacting with your baby. Irl I've never heard of anyone planning a nn prior to birth.

Firstly, a nickname can be a shortened name. And secondly, I didn’t say I was planning a nickname prior to birth..?
