Thoughts on Miranda? It was our top name (probably still is). We like that it is recognisable without being overused. We don't mind that it is slightly dated because we like those sorts of names. We don't want a name that is going to scream "I was born in the 2020s" in 10-20 years so would prefer a name that has already dated and gone out of fashion. Unfortunately, every family member that we have casually mentioned it to (as a possibility) has hated it.

We also like:

Bethany
Connie
Francesca
Kate
Lynn
Matilda (like the name itself but don't love how trendy/overused it is)
Meredith
Rebecca
Rhea (ray-ah)
Stephanie

Miranda is lovely.

I also like Rhea from your list, though the two I know pronounce it Ree-a, not Ray-a.

RogueFemale · 24/07/2025 01:35

Love Miranda.

Don't like any of the others on your list.

I really liked these names, but you can also check out a web app - It's called Namey- I recently used and found super interesting — it might help you decide on the best name for your baby girl.🤗

IsItADream · 21/07/2025 18:03

I love Miranda! We ruled out Matilda because it's getting too popular here and Meredith because I didn't even want to imagine how the locals would butcher the pronunciation.

My partner vetoed Millicent. Not sure if that would be an option for you.

I also love (but can't use for various reasons) Beatrix, Cassandra, Celeste, Amaia.

If you go for Kate or Connie, definitely give her the full version of the name so she has the option.

I think Miranda is lovely.

My Kate says she’s glad she’s not a Catherine etc

LoudPlumDog · 21/07/2025 12:21

I have a Kate, I still love her name, she’s in a professional role and she loves having a professional sounding name ( her words)

Miranda = gorgeous and timeless.

It is Picnic At Hanging Rock beautiful.

Others I like are Stephanie, Kate, Rebecca and Meredith.

Lindsey
Clare
Susanna
Josephine

Not keen on Miranda personally - but I absolutely adore Meredith (nickname Edie or merry)

TheeNotoriousPIG · 20/07/2025 16:29

I quite like Miranda, actually! I also like Connie and Kate, and love Matilda. Do you live in an area where it's actually popular? I ask as I live in an area where Welsh names are dominant, so when a stray Matilda cropped up, it was commented on how unusual it was!

I'm also another one who has only heard Rhea pronounced as Ria. I've come across a Raya (spelt like that), though.

TheyFuckYouUpYourMamAndDad · 18/07/2025 19:45

I have a lovely friend called Miranda so my judgement is clouded by this I suspect. We call her Mirry 💖

She, however, doesn’t like her name - she got called Randy Panda at school, which wasn’t nice for her.

From your list I like all except Lynn…that’s such a weird 60s throwback (I’m a 60s child).

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 18/07/2025 19:40

I have a Miranda. She’s 27 and was born in Bermuda, where the shipwreck in The Tempest was allegedly set. I still love it and haven’t met many others.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 18/07/2025 19:25

Love Miranda, it's unusual without being 'try-hard'. You might consider Mirella?

GlaikitWeeNyaff · 18/07/2025 10:09

From your list I love Francesca and Meredith more, but there is nothing wrong with Miranda.

could I suggest Juliet, Rosalind and Penelope as having a similar vibe.

PersephonePomegranate · 18/07/2025 10:07

I love Miranda. It was on my list but it got vetoed.

Pinty · 18/07/2025 10:04

Miranda is fine

Of your list I am not keen on
Bethany
Meredith
Connie
Lynn

The others are nice.

RantzNotBantz · 17/07/2025 19:14

I have never heard Rhea pronounced Ray-a
Always Ree-ah

Yes I would assume Rhea is Ree-ah

Eenameenadeeka · 18/07/2025 10:01

Miranda is nice and also love Meredith

NorthernDancer · 18/07/2025 09:07

Meredith is a boy's name, and possibly pronounced slightly differently if you're anywhere near Wales.

typicaltuesdaynight · 18/07/2025 08:26

It’s a lovely name Meredith is gorgeous as well , only know a grown up Meredith and she’s lovely

RabbitsRock · 18/07/2025 07:56

I like the name Miranda. One of my best friends at primary school was called Miranda so I always think of her when I hear the name. Also always liked Melody which isn’t common either.

2chocolateoranges · 18/07/2025 07:52

Not a Miranda fan.

however love Kate and Connie from your list and would go for Beth rather than Bethany

TomatoSandwiches · 17/07/2025 23:02

I like Meredith

Suggestions, Cassandra, Irenie, Susanna, Wendy, Mary, Alma, Queenie, Tanith, Erica, Sally.

PopThatBench · 17/07/2025 22:56

Not a huge fan of Miranda but I do like that it’s unheard of.
I’ve only ever met one Miranda (late 40s) and her nickname was Mindy.
I love Meredith though!

Firsttimebabymummy · 17/07/2025 22:51

Really like Miranda! Like Stephanie too

Not keen on Matilda.

TheBirdintheCave · 17/07/2025 22:23

Miranda was on our list. Definitely my favourite from your choices :)

Our criteria was the same: underused yet familiar. We went with Marcella in the end.
