The Ottilees I know have brothers George, Jesse and Harry. Felix came to mind first but I think I prefer something like Jack, Sam, Peter.

chocciebiscuits · 15/07/2025 22:40

I have an Ottilie and Finley ☺️

Dearnurse · 15/07/2025 22:36

muck even

shirtyshirt · 13/07/2025 00:19

It's 100% a real name and common as muck in some parts.

Do tell where Ptolemy is a common as much name?

shirtyshirt · 13/07/2025 00:17

I’m not sure what’s with all the random suggestions that sound like parody private school names, do people really name their babies Ptolemy or Ambrose.

The baby name board is full of the striving middle classes hence the name suggestions and the often verging on racist remarks when someone uses a non English name eg "is that name made up" 😮

I’m assuming OP is in the UK though. I looked it up on darkgreener and it’s extremely rare here, zero babies registered with that name last year. To my surprise a very small handful of babies in some of the other years (bless them 😬) but still very very rare.

But a name like Ptolemy IS going to be very hard to carry round and people will judge. (Although I’m still not convinced it’s a real name 🤔)

Posters on this section are very quick to call certain names ‘chavvy’ but it’s not allowed the other way round for some reason.

Bottilie?

I'll get my coat......... 😬

anotherwordforit · 12/07/2025 21:18

For me a similar ‘vibe’ would be-
Arthur
Arlo
Roman
Oakley
Luca
Reggie
Theo

but I think names with one syllable would sound good if you want them to ‘match’ in a pair-

James
Jack
George
Max
Jude
Finn

hoarahloux · 12/07/2025 21:05

The one Ottilie I know has a brother named Elliott.

While both names are lovely, perhaps not so much together.

drspouse · 12/07/2025 20:48

I know an Etta (another great blues singer) whose brother is Harris.

Do people not know who Ptolemy is?

I meant ‘actual name’ as in ‘do people actually name their babies this’

Looking on the darkgreener website it seems zero babies registered with this name in 2023 so just one of those weird MN quirks it seems

Fartughtyred · 12/07/2025 11:59

Ottilie and Valentin
Ottilie and Miles
Ottilie and Ivan
Ottilie and Raphael
Ottilie and Christian

You must live in a very ‘rural’ area if you’d laugh at children called those names! Wow Hmm

Thankfully we live in a more open minded area as my children have some of those names.

I’m sorry but all of these names…. Wow.

You must live somewhere quite pleasant and accepting of such names because if I shouted Ottilie, Ptolemy, Quentin, Maximus or Augustus in our school playground, I’d probably get laughed out the school yard

And we live in a nice quaint rural
village

Surely, it’s not just me that thinks you could just use a nice normal name that doesn’t invite an option for bullies in later life?! 🤷‍♀️

Imagine the poor OP having to shout 'Ottilie and Ptolemy' across the playground! It's like a tongue twister!

Actually laughing out loud. Is it even a name? 😆😆
