Can't Cassie be short for Catherine?

I don't think Cassia is pretentious - if anything the opposite because of the cheaper cinnamon substitute thing. But it is a pretty name, though personally Id go Cassandra with Cassie for short.

I also like Cordelia! His other two I really don't like. Valeria sounds like valerian (he has a thing for herbs!) or, even worse, makes me think of venereal disease. And Maxima just isn't nice; imagine if she is size conscious.

Calliope I think is borderline OTT - despite my username.

I like both Cassian and Cassius and don't think they are too out there for a boy.

I'm not keen on Cassia sorry. what about Cassandra nickname Cassie

Ketziah means Cassia tree, so that could be an option.

I really like Cassia and, although it is different from the very mainstream names you have listed at your local school, it isn't that out there or hard to pronounce or wildly pretentious. I think it would fit in fine. I'm sure there will be at least a few unusual names in every class, even if they're only ones from other cultures.

I love the name Cassia! But also know a little Cassidy, and think it's such a pretty name

NC to say I have a Cassia so naturally I think your DH has excellent taste.

She is junior school age and loves her name. We have met only one other younger Cassia. Pronunciation has not been a problem at all - usually the mistake by some non native English speakers may be to put the accent over the I instead of the first syllable but that’s it.

Loathe Cordelia, Maxima and Valeria. Really clunky, and I'd resent my parents if they'd called me any of those names.

I like Laurence. However Cassius would worry me as he murdered Caesar and was not a man to be trusted! Laurence of Arabia was a hero. Florence is lovely and there is Florence nightingale of course. I know a Cecilia and she is a lovely person and of course there was the patron saint of music by that name. Yes, I can’t help thinking of associations but you probably don’t so won’t worry. My girts were named after characters in my favourite books so Catherine (Cathy) Wuthering Heights and Jo from Little Women. However, the latter is Joanne as a blend of our names and could still have Jo.

Cassia is a laxative - it’s the Latin name for senna. I wouldn’t use it for that reason.
