Yes I know about Sasha!
It's never been a favorite nickname of mine either but I know several Serbian men who go by that name it sounds good for a little kid.
I also know Serbian men whose name is Alec, but for me Alex is perfect!

I know some Ukrainians and they are Boris, Oleg, Yuriy and Igor. Oleg seems the best from those, but all are good.

How about Yevgraf nn Yuri, or Mikhail nn Misha? The names are known in the west because of Gagarin and Gorbachev. Yevgraf was a character in a famous film.

I like Misha but can't find a full name that would sound not old like Gorbachev...it should probably be Michael! Or Micah? Is it even a name for an adult?

But we think also of Mikhail Baryshnikov. A very handsome and talented man.
Two men much admired in the west. Names come back into fashion after about 80-100 years.

A baby Mikhail could be Mika, Mick, Mikey or Misha.

Mikhail is lovely and Micah I went to school with boy called Micah.

I agree, i would not call a son Romeo but i really like it as a nickname...or the way it sounds in UK...and not in Ukraine or Italy lets say

Thanks! I think knowing your heritage gives a different feel for names.

In that case Roman would be nicer.
There are many lovely names that work in both a Ukrainian and English setting.
how about:
Alex
Peter
Nathan
Victor

I still wouldn’t select Romeo though.
I also would not select Judah (as the biblical character is not someone I’d want my child named after!)

These are lovely names in my opinion, although Maxim would be Maximilian (shortened to Max).

Good luck with your name choice !
Try calling your baby each of these names and see if any suit him best.

Peter and Michael are classic names, recognised globally and have sweet shortened versions. Both of these are really good. Roman is also very solid. I also like Nicolas (Nico) and Robert.

Biblical or royal names tend to be described as classic. Place names and maybe American sounding names (Cody, Brad, Brett) tend to be viewed as possibly not ageing as well.

Go with what you like, what's fashionable changes over time.

Slight over reaction! I mean you’d be searching forever if you wanted a boys name that hasn’t been the name of a lecherous male at some point…

@Needmorelego , It's not racist. You might interpret it as being, but of itself, it isn't.

I wish people wouldn't use some words, but there's not a lot I can do about it.

Nicknames are usually diminutives, so it doesn't really work.

I wouldn't say it's a nickname - it's a different name.
Nicknames are names that just evolve and aren't necessarily anything to do with a person's real name.
I called my daughter Pumpkin for a while. when she was a toddler.
She's also been called Madam MooMoo, Missy Moo and Madam Bumbleton over the years.
