DH has just announced that the name we would have used for a boy, he wants to use for DD. He loves it but I remain unconvinced. Tell me your honest opinion please, we are in Scotland.

@BikkieTimebelieve me, I know, I like very ‘feminine’ names but DH doesn’t.

I really don’t like Finnoula Sad

I think that’s why DH likes it, because it’s so ‘unusual’ for a girl.

would Finola or Fionnuala work, shortened to Finn. I know a few Fionnualas that are often called Finn.

This is what I came to suggest too.

Not sure I like Finn for a girl, though.

Brian and Kenneth are also great names for girls 😂

No, it is a boy's name. There are so many girls' names.

Finn is a fantastic name - for a boy

Bananafofana · 17/06/2025 07:06

You can call your child what you like (within reason) but everyone will assume the child is a boy, or - when she’s older - a girl who is identifying as a boy and has chosen that name for themselves. Finley would be closer to a unisex name.

Fiona?
Serafina

CaptainFuture · 17/06/2025 07:05

But agree just Finn? No!

CurlewKate · 17/06/2025 07:05

Would he call a boy Sophia? If not, then don’t call a girl Finn.

CaptainFuture · 17/06/2025 07:04

In Scotland and know many male Finns, no female, unless he's thinking the Gaelic Fionnuala and Finn as nn?

loadofallornothingdays · 17/06/2025 07:03

No

ScribblyyGum · 17/06/2025 07:03

It's a no from me.
