I quite like it. Marcie is nice too

LotsOfSmallThings · 19/06/2025 22:02

I absolutely love it, was one of my top choices for my DD - I offered OH the final choice between Marnie and one other and he went for the (admittedly very similar!) other choice. Ticks all the boxes.
but I do think this thread has proven very effectively that you can’t please everyone, judging by the VERY mixed reactions, so I think that probably reiterates that people should just use names they like and sod what everyone else thinks.

Not if you live up north.
'ar(our) Marnie

Busted2006 · 19/06/2025 18:54

Mahree is sometimes a pronunciation of 'Marie', which I personally pronounce 'ma-REE'.

The Scots Gaelic name Mairi is pronounced Mahree.

Ah I didn’t need the e on the end.

I think you'll find true Gaelic speakers pronounce it Vahree. Very confusing, I know.

Is it? How do you spell it if it’s pronounced Mahree?

Not a fave.

I like a couple of women called Marnie but they are nick names.

Maire is pronounced 'Moira'. Or Moya if you're from Donegal.

Edited

ForFunGoose · 18/06/2025 00:15

Airhead name, sorry

mathanxiety · 18/06/2025 00:14

I don't see the attraction of Marnie at all.

Rhymes with sarny, too close to marry. It sounds like the name of a blowsy greasy spoon waitress with a huge peroxide bouffant hairdo.

Streetsofgold · 17/06/2025 23:22

Really like it.
