Due later this year with a boy and have NO idea what to call him!

We love Ludo but saw someone’s dog was called Ludo and now can’t help but think of it as a dogs name?

Also love Harrison but my DH knows a Harrison who was a bully at school so he can’t come around to it.

I love Ralph but not sure it hits the spot…

Also love the name Joss but can’t use it!

Hit me with any and all suggestions!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Not ludo it’s a boring game and Ralph was the name of a boys penis in a popular teen book. Toby ?

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 04/07/2025 22:36

Behave.

Babynamehelp22 · 22/04/2026 09:59

Haha I have a Ludo 🤣

Branleuse · 22/04/2026 10:53

I like it. It sounds a bit posh so it wouldn't work as well in some areas as others

What about Ludovic, as in Ludovic Kennedy? Ludo for short is actually quite sweet I think. I've heard a lot worse names.

I've heard of worse names too. Ludovico is definitely not a dog's name, and, while Ludo isn't my personal style (I'm a Henry, Charles, Edward type!) I rather like it.

It's playful (in meaning too) and happy. Why not? I doubt it has much scope for teasing.

Nitgel · 22/04/2026 13:55

Ludovic is a.classic name. Ludovic Kennedy. Just read he was married to Moira Shearer. Didn't know that

HappyInTheSea · 22/04/2026 14:18

Reminds me of the old joke.

A man had a tattoo on his penis. Sometimes it said Ludo, sometimes it said Llandudno.

MorangoDoNordeste · 22/04/2026 14:33

Ludo means "I play" in Latin.
I doubt many of your DS's friends will think of Ludo from Labyrinth, even if their parents do.
I think it's quite a cool name! And I think kids claim their names. To his friends, future classmates and colleagues, Ludo will just be his name, like Jack or Oliver.

timoteigirl · 22/04/2026 18:21

I love it

That's funny!

But I still quite like Ludo.

I have never heard of the board game and I don’t think of it as a dog’s name at all! It surprised me a bit. If someone introduced himself as Ludo I’d assume he’s called Ludovic and it’s short for it

CrushingOnRubies · 22/04/2026 18:38

i think of the board game & Ludo Bagman in Harry Potter

CheeseNcrackerz · 22/04/2026 18:39

Ludo is a lovely nickname for ludovic. I’d never call a child ludo by itself

VivienneDelacroix · 22/04/2026 18:40

I love the name Ludo.

RaraRachael · 22/04/2026 18:41

To me, Ludo is a board game.

Ralph is ok if pronounced Ralph, rather than Rafe.

How is Ludo a dog's name and Ralph isn't? Ruff Ruff

Sebora · 22/04/2026 18:43

Friend? 😂😂😂 sorry I just think of Labyrinth too!

Ludo is a board game. What about Lando?

Sure if he’s black and flies the Millenium Falcon.

underthehawthorntree · 22/04/2026 18:52

I absolutely love Ludo. Wish i had had the balls to use it. I also had Ralph and Joss on my long list. But tbh I think you have to be extremely posh and slightly eccentric to get away with Ludo.

piscofrisco · 22/04/2026 19:37

My dog is called Ludo to be fair. But before it was a dogs name it was a very posh man’s name. (And of course also the game).
I like it for boy or dog to be fair.

Twodogsisbetterthanone · 22/04/2026 19:41

I love all boys names that end in O, but this one is definitely dog territory.

Iago
Otto
Cosmo
Lando
Rollo
Arlo
Enzo

LivingTheDreamish · 23/04/2026 19:01

Sadly yes Ludo is a board game. Ralph is super. How about:

Luke
Otto
Otis
Saul
Dexter

Not Iago! But the others work.

Calliopespa · 23/04/2026 19:05

How about hyphenated: Ludo-Chris?

Just teasing! I quite like it OP.
