Due later this year with a boy and have NO idea what to call him!

We love Ludo but saw someone’s dog was called Ludo and now can’t help but think of it as a dogs name?

Also love Harrison but my DH knows a Harrison who was a bully at school so he can’t come around to it.

I love Ralph but not sure it hits the spot…

Also love the name Joss but can’t use it!

Hit me with any and all suggestions!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ludo is a lovely nickname for ludovic. I’d never call a child ludo by itself

CrushingOnRubies · 22/04/2026 18:38

i think of the board game & Ludo Bagman in Harry Potter

whatandindeedwhy · 22/04/2026 18:38

I have never heard of the board game and I don’t think of it as a dog’s name at all! It surprised me a bit. If someone introduced himself as Ludo I’d assume he’s called Ludovic and it’s short for it

Reminds me of the old joke.

A man had a tattoo on his penis. Sometimes it said Ludo, sometimes it said Llandudno.

That's funny!

But I still quite like Ludo.

timoteigirl · 22/04/2026 18:21

I love it

MorangoDoNordeste · 22/04/2026 14:33

Ludo means "I play" in Latin.
I doubt many of your DS's friends will think of Ludo from Labyrinth, even if their parents do.
I think it's quite a cool name! And I think kids claim their names. To his friends, future classmates and colleagues, Ludo will just be his name, like Jack or Oliver.

Ludovic is a.classic name. Ludovic Kennedy. Just read he was married to Moira Shearer. Didn't know that

Calliopespa · 22/04/2026 13:44

Cillaere · 11/06/2025 13:25

What about Ludovic, as in Ludovic Kennedy? Ludo for short is actually quite sweet I think. I've heard a lot worse names.

I've heard of worse names too. Ludovico is definitely not a dog's name, and, while Ludo isn't my personal style (I'm a Henry, Charles, Edward type!) I rather like it.

It's playful (in meaning too) and happy. Why not? I doubt it has much scope for teasing.

Branleuse · 22/04/2026 10:53

I like it. It sounds a bit posh so it wouldn't work as well in some areas as others

Babynamehelp22 · 22/04/2026 09:59

Haha I have a Ludo 🤣

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 04/07/2025 22:36

Behave.

whynotmereally · 04/07/2025 22:26

Not ludo it’s a boring game and Ralph was the name of a boys penis in a popular teen book. Toby ?

IS the full name Ludovico? Its a really nice name in Italy and they tend to shorten them, so its more of the nickname

ADHDQueen · 01/07/2025 19:16

Or Snakes & Ladders?

CatsArePeople · 01/07/2025 18:01

Ludwig? Louie?

piscofrisco · 26/06/2025 22:07

Our dog is called Ludo. But I think it works equally well for a human boy.

Oriunda · 26/06/2025 10:27

GoldenRosebee · 16/06/2025 17:29

I think people here are kinda narrow-minded. Ludo as a name is nickname for Ludovic, but game isn't known as Ludo in any other language but English and not outside Britain.
I would personally prefer Ludovic over Ludo.

This. My son has one of the names referred to on this thread as 'posho'. If I'd been lucky enough to have had a second child who was make, Ludovico (Ludo for short) would have been on my list. We're an Italian family, and Ludovico is a perfectly normal name.

AFrolicOfMyOwn · 16/06/2025 19:41

Perhaps it’s a generational thing?

For me (60s) having grown up hearing it as a diminutive for names like Ludovic or Ludwig, and seeing it in novels and magazines and newspapers, it’s a perfectly recognisable (and lovely) man’s name.

So I will try not to draw the conclusion that all the shocked reactions indicate a lack of reading / travel / whatever - and simply assume it’s fallen out of fashion!

Sandy420 · 16/06/2025 19:31

Ludo is awful for a child but great for a dog IMO. I'm not keen on Ralph either. Love Rafe and Luca.

NormasArse · 16/06/2025 18:32

I work pt in a nursery- it’s by no means the most unusual name I’ve heard. Anything goes !

Mademetoxic · 16/06/2025 18:28

Jesus Christ. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

NorthernDancer · 16/06/2025 18:23

Short for Ludovic. Proper name. Whyever not?

Zov · 16/06/2025 18:03

Channel4IsShit · 16/06/2025 17:03

Don’t listen to these naysayers. Ludo is great.

But not as good as ‘Monopoly’, ‘Draughts’, ‘Backgammon’, or ‘Craps’.

If I have a boy ‘Yahtzee’ will be top of the list.

LOL. 😆

Zov · 16/06/2025 18:02

LUDO?! 😂 Oh dear @Keepingbusyeating Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! 😱
