I prefer Leo, if you don’t mind its popularity? It’s got a friendly feel.

Hugo is a good name too, but it has posh vibes to me (though this association is fading as it gets more popular so that wouldn’t necessarily put me off).

Leo - it’s a lovely, strong name. It’s might be popular, but I only know one little boy with that name.

Really not a fan of Hugo, it’s a little too plummy and posh for me.

They're both fine. Leo is more common now: 5th most common compared to 40-something for Hugo. So it's possible there'd be a few of them in his peer group.

Anecdotally, in my local play park, among 3-5 year olds, there are two Hugos and a Leo. though is that a problem? There have always been a bajillion Johns, James, Davids etc.

Depends what you want. Leo is far more mainstream, which I personally prefer despite the popularity (which wouldn't bother me, personally).

Hugo is less popular but definitely has that posh, private school feel to it (in Britain, I feel it's likely more mainstream on the continent).

I much prefer Leo, out of the two.

I love Hugo. I'm never quite sure what to think of Leo, although I do like Leon.
I never understand posh comments? Why is that negative?
