Sounds too posh?

We're having a little boy and have narrowed it down to

Gabriel
Dante
Morgan
Reuben

We like unusual names rather than traditional names. The problem is that we already have a double-barrelled surname. Do you think our poor baby is going to sound too posh?

I like gabriel which is loevely and i think gabe is still lovely.Reuben is nice too
the others are not posh at all. Morgan def not.
So no worries on the posh front. take your pick

Also hyphenated surnames are not posh anymore. Haven't been for a couple of decades.

jingleyjen · 22/05/2008 13:29

gabriel and reuben - lovely
Dante makes me think of the asbo boy from waterloo road.
Morgan - too many short skirted blonde girls called this.

Amandella · 22/05/2008 13:26

Definitely Gabriel. Why worry if he sounds posh?

VictorianSqualor · 22/05/2008 13:04

I LOVE Dante, didn't go with my other DC's names though or ds2 would be Dante.

Reuben is really nice too, the little boy next to my DD in SCBU was called Reuben.

mrspnut · 22/05/2008 12:52

I like Reuben, and all the people I know who have called their son Reuben have been hippyish At least 4 friends who used to he hunt sabs with us have since called sons Reuben.

Anna8888 · 22/05/2008 12:51

LOL jkklpu - I wanted my daughter to have a totally girly first name as her hyphenated surname sounds dreadfully lawfirmish

cheesesarnie · 22/05/2008 12:50

i like
Morgan
Reuben

Anna8888 · 22/05/2008 12:48

Gabriel and Reuben are both very nice. Bit hard to judge how OTT the combo with your surname will sound without knowing the surname...

Nighbynight · 22/05/2008 12:41

Gabriel is the nicest. But with a d-b surname it will sound posh, but realistically so would anything except "John"

jkklpu · 22/05/2008 12:11

Gabriel's lovely. Rest not posh but would risk sounding like a law firm instead of a baby with double surname.

kitsmummy · 22/05/2008 12:10

I think if you call him Morgan there's no chance of it sounding too posh . I do however love Gabriel and i do think that's fairly posh (but in a good way)

Ellbell · 22/05/2008 11:55

Love Gabriel, Reuben and Morgan. Dd2 would have been Reuben if she'd been a boy.

Would be faintly ridiculous for me to use Dante (I teach/write about the Italian poet!) so it's hard for me to judge it objectively. I don't like it as much as the other three.

TillyScoutsmum · 22/05/2008 11:52

Gabriel is my fave. Reuben is nice. Dante - I would think borderline too posh and tend to think of Morgan as more of a girl's name

belcantavinissima · 22/05/2008 11:52

love gabriel, love dante. morgan and reuben in these parts is quite chav tho

fannybanjo · 22/05/2008 11:52

I really really really really wanted Gabriel for a boy but everyone I mentioned it to laughed at me. LOVE IT, also like Rueben too.

suwoo · 22/05/2008 11:49

Morgan is a chav girls name round these parts.

GooseyLoosey · 22/05/2008 11:40

Would avoid Dante.

Nancy66 · 22/05/2008 11:39

don't think any of them are too posh.

Gabriel is lovely and like Reuben too.

Dante is a bit wanky and Morgan is 'orrible.

Fennel · 22/05/2008 11:29

I know little boy Gabriels, Reubens and Morgans. None of them are particularly posh. I like all those names.

duchesse · 22/05/2008 11:27

Love Gabriel and Morgan. Like Dante quite a lot. Like Reuben, but reminds me of 35 yr old red-necked farmer in Utah or somewhere.

muggglewump · 22/05/2008 11:27

I love Gabriel and Reuben, not so keen on the others and would avoid Morgan because of the Eastenders connection

EffiePerine · 22/05/2008 11:23

Gabriel is lovely

findtheriver · 22/05/2008 11:21

Yeah, Dante definitely not posh- if anything will have the opposite connotations. Isnt one of Bianca's kids called Morgan in Eastenders?? - so ditto with Dante.
Gabriel is lovely

RosaLuxembourg · 22/05/2008 11:20

The only Morgans I know are girls. I like Gabriel and Reuben, not so keen on Dante.

Divejaney · 22/05/2008 11:20

I suppose we could give him a more traditional middle name and then if he really hates his first name he could change.

Dante could also be Dan or Danny for short.
I love Gabriel but not that keen on Gabe!
