Opinions on the name Miles?

Never ever had this name as a contender until a week ago.

Kind of irrelevant but strange back story to where I’ve got the name from:

My husband suggested it as we were on our way to the airport a week ago, and a singer on the radio was named Miles and I loved it.

The next day, I went to read a book I bought for my holiday - the main character was named Miles and his mother in the book has my name!

The day after, my husband saw a TikTok of a baby named Miles and the babies surname was my maiden name.

I feel like the universe is sending me a hard sign here that the baby wants to be called Miles 🤣

His name, since before I was even pregnant, was going to be Xander. But something is pulling me towards Miles now and I think I really love the name.
What do you all think of the name? Is it crazy to change his name when I’m 7 months pregnant, on a whim?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@Thelightblueduck its interesting reading all these opinions. Names can sometimes be suggestive of a type of person and in my head from my experiences Miles sounds like they would be a posh toff 😅

A different and unique but actually old name I do like for a boy is Asa. Unfortunately never met anyone to have kids with and now it’s too late but I reckon I’d have chose this for my unborn boy!

Offleyhoo · 06/06/2025 16:39

I'm sorry but I don't like it at all, it gives me real debonnair, posh cad type vibes (older, jaguar driving smoothie, or maybe that was just my parents' friends 😂)

Ihavedecided · 06/06/2025 16:33

Very dated. Xander is a bit try too hard.

Spinachpastapicker · 06/06/2025 16:31

I like Alexander with nn Xander, it’s a strong classic name.

Sorry but every Miles I have met has been posh, wet and very very dull. So I’m put off the name by that.

I agree to wait and see what he looks like.

Xander is absolutely awful IMO so I'd pick Miles, which is better, not miles better mins you but better.

mepipesneedlagging · 06/06/2025 10:23

Frasier's brother. Nope.

That was Niles not Miles

obecalp12 · 06/06/2025 16:26

I've got one! Wanted a top 100 name without it being a top 10 (ie, not super common but not 'unique' either). I also think its a name that works for any age.

I wanted 'Xavier' but DH not keen (similar to Xander). We also decided on it through a 'sign from the universe' type scenario when the care package left for us at our babymoon accommodation had a box of Miles tea bags.

Zebralie · 06/06/2025 16:23

One Mile, two Miles…. It looks like a plural

Zebralie · 06/06/2025 16:22

In the UK Miles is used as a measurement of distance. Like naming a child Kilometres!

ElsieJay · 06/06/2025 16:22

Like Myles/Miles , love Milo !
Love Alexander .
Hate Xander.

suah · 06/06/2025 16:19

I don’t love Miles. It’s very mundane. But I think Milo is lovely.

Xander is a nickname, I’d do Alexander on the birth certificate if you go for that.

Moreteaandchocolate · 06/06/2025 16:15

Of course it’s fine to change it 😊 I like both names, but prefer Xander as short for Alexander personally.

okydokethen · 06/06/2025 12:18

I think it’s a cool name, much prefer it

Ilikeadrink14 · 06/06/2025 11:58

Fantasticfrollics · 06/06/2025 10:14

I like it, I think it's quite cool. But it rhymes with 'piles' and that puts me right off it

I’ve heard it all now!!

BootballJoy · 06/06/2025 11:54

mepipesneedlagging · 06/06/2025 10:23

Frasier's brother. Nope.

Frasier's brother was Niles.

Inlimboin50s · 06/06/2025 11:53

I have a 17 yr old called Miles,it's a great name!

marshmallowfinder · 06/06/2025 11:37

I like it. It's my son's middle name, but spelt Myles so it doesn't look like a unit of measurement. Xander is a bit try-hard to me and will date very fast I reckon.

Emanwenym · 06/06/2025 11:01

I like Miles but not Myles. Xander is only OK if short for Alexander, and I can't say I like it.

user1471467504 · 06/06/2025 10:57

I love the name Myles (i know different spelling) so much that I have one! Gorgeous name and still quite unusual - he is the only one in his school (and it's a big high school).

Hollyhobbi · 06/06/2025 10:52

There was a TV show on RTE in Ireland and one of the main characters, a farmer, was called Miley!

AliBaliBee1234 · 06/06/2025 10:49

There are a few Miles at baby class

JazzyBBBG · 06/06/2025 10:48

My Dad is a Miles. He's handsome, funny and everyone loves him. Go for it.

user1492757084 · 06/06/2025 10:40

Miles is handsome.
Alexander is also handsome.

gattocattivo · 06/06/2025 10:29

I don’t like Xander as a given name, ok as nickname for Alexander (which I love.) Miles is a cool, classy name which suits all ages

smileymylie25 · 06/06/2025 10:26

Love it but spelt Myles
