If you have one and only if you're comfortable sharing of course!

Clare. My first name begins with an L so perhaps that's why my middle name isn't Louise, like the rest of my cohort 🤣

DD is 21 and her middle name is Christine. She used to be really embarrassed by it but is now pleased that it's not Grace, Rose or Mae.

Mary - same as my mum and nan!

Clare - born late 60s. My older sister got the other possibility of that era for middle names - Jane. Dad named my sister after Jane Fonda and me after Claire Bloom but my mum insisted on no "i" as she wanted English spelling 🤷🏻‍♀️

We both have first names that were quite unusual at the time so I like that we had the balance.

Weirdly, I can remember the middle names of many of my cohort (because IIRC we all decided to irritate the hell out of the staff by going by our middle names for a while). We had a Sheila, Lucy, Dawn, Mary, Victoria, Kathleen, Ruth, Judith and even a Sharples in amongst all the Janes and Anns.

Haven’t seen another Ellen on the thread yet!

I was born in 1994.

Jayne. If you were born late 70s or early 80s it was highly likely you'd have Jane, Elizabeth or Louise.

I would have said Jane, Elizabeth or Anne - I missed the invasion of the Louises! I grew up with quite a few first name Louises who were a couple of years younger than me (i.e. born in the early 80s) and now I'm wondering what their middle names could have been.

Louise is a super popular baby name in France at the moment.

My middle name is the same as my mum's first name and she was named after a 1940s film star.

Ooh Rita? Marlene? Ingrid? Lauren? Veronica?

😀

Sue - parents obviously wanted something snappy although to be fair my first name and surname are quite long. Late 60's baby.

Mary Jean after my grandmothers. I was born in the early 70s and found my middle names very embarrassing. I used to wish it was Jane or Louise like all the other girls my age! 😆

KnickerFolder · 03/06/2025 16:36

Mine is too outing but the thread has reminded me of a French friend living in the UK who was discussing baby names with a group of us when she was pregnant about 15 years ago. She announced that they had decided on “an unusual French name” for a girl, that we might not have heard of as it wasn’t very common in the UK… Louise 😂 She was (luckily) quite amused to find out that half the women there, along with half the women born between 1970 and the early noughties, had Louise as a middle name.

Andoutcomethewolves · 03/06/2025 16:22

So many Louises! Maybe I should be grateful for Crystal 🤣

2doglady · 03/06/2025 16:22

Philadelphia. Born in the 50s and named after my maternal grandmother. It was also my mum’s sister’s name. Unfortunately she died young so didn’t know her.

Wasn’t keen on it as a child but like it now.

Lee. Late 80s baby

girljulian · 03/06/2025 15:11

Louise! Such a pointless placeholder 😂
