That’s my sister’s name! It’s Italian. Pronounced the Italian way, it’s El-Yanna (3 syllables, not 4). It’s shortened to Ellie or Lili.

Wow , it is beautiful pronounced that way , love it actually ❤️

feelingbleh · 31/05/2025 00:34

Love it beautiful name

Scrabbelator · 31/05/2025 00:33

Beautiful name

DefinitelyNotAStepfordWife · 31/05/2025 00:00

My youngest is Elaina. Easier to pronounce, less mix up or need to correct the pronunciation and shortened to Ellie unless she's in trouble. I think with kids names you've really got to think about how many times they will need to correct people during their everyday lives.

RuthW · 30/05/2025 22:08

I love arna names.

i really dislike Ellie though.

okydokethen · 30/05/2025 21:50

Lovely name

DramaAlpaca · 30/05/2025 21:48

It's pretty, but too frilly for me.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 30/05/2025 21:45

It's a suburb of Valencia to me, but sounds pretty.

Rosybud88 · 30/05/2025 21:42

I am personally not a fan and I agree with fussy/frilly comments. It depends on what you like in a name but it doesn’t pack enough of a punch for me.

That pronunciation is pretty. It's the Ellie-Arnuh one I don't like.

My daughter is nearly 10 and she’s called Eliana.
A lot of people pronounce and spell it wrong.
We have a few shortened names for her
Eli
Els
Elsie
She loves her name and I’ve only come across one other with this name.

It’s lovely OP , so feminine 🥰 .. I know you haven’t asked for opinions on other names, but I’d like to share this lovely name .. Annalise ..
Pronounced Annaleese ..
I think so feminine also ..

MotherOfNations · 30/05/2025 21:17

My 11 yr old is called Eliana. We chose it based on the meaning. ( Answered by God) We knew she'd be born with heart defects and figured we needed some prayers answered. Nobody ever shortens it's to Ellie.

Emmz1510 · 30/05/2025 21:06

Very nice

Username2151 · 30/05/2025 16:20

I think it's a lovely name very pretty.
I would pronounce it with four syllables in the Italian way.
A few possible nn on this name, which is nice as it will give your DD a choice.

MadKittenWoman · 30/05/2025 14:15

I’ve rarely heard it used by anyone else, especially in UK. My sister is 75 now. I have a very 60s name, being born in 62!

DD1’s best friend is Eliana and it suits her so well!

GuineapigOlympics · 30/05/2025 08:36

For me it merges into a whole bunch of names so I wouldn’t find it distinguishable enough - Eliana, Alana, Elianna, Alanna, Elina, Elena, Alina, Aliana, Alaina. But it’s pretty in itself.

This.
its a no from me, very similar to so many other names and also bad in most British accents eg Yorkshire EllEhAAAAAAnuh

YetAnotherNewNameAgain · 30/05/2025 13:40

I pronounce it hope you do. It's nice.

*how you do

YetAnotherNewNameAgain · 30/05/2025 13:40

jasminnie · 30/05/2025 08:37

Isn’t it pronounced like Ariana but with Eli at the front?

I pronounce it hope you do. It's nice.

PurpleChrayn · 30/05/2025 13:38

I like it. Popular in modern Jewish circles where I live.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 30/05/2025 13:35

I love it. Wanted to call my eldest daughter Eliana but ended up calling her Ellie instead

CruCru · 30/05/2025 13:19

GuineapigOlympics · 30/05/2025 11:34

I am Easy Anglia born and bred and I can't think of any other way of saying Yvonne than Ee-von! How else do you say it?

I am from the south coast and would say Ye-von.

Catandsquirrel · 30/05/2025 13:05

Ok but all frill. Like a pudding that is all squirty cream. Too many variants at the tail end of the popularity of Ellie etc. if you love it it's fine. I know it's an established name but just hasn't got much to it.
