But they've been in constant use for a lot longer than the current crop of girls' names. There are Freddys and Georges who are in their twenties, but the Ada, Ava, Maude brigade are almost all toddlers/primary age. So the older names for boys have been around so long that they are now 'modern' whereas the girls seem to still be 'sounding' old.

I think it depends where you live.

Henry (which is in the top ten) is incredibly popular here. A couple of my friends named their boys Henry. There’s also 2 in dds reception class and I’ve met at least another 5 across various playgroups/parties etc over the last year. Albie, Arlo, Thomas, Arthur and Kit are popular too.
On the other hand, I’ve only ever come across one Leo and one Noah, which are also in the top ten.

Poppy, Ella, Violet, Millie, Eve/Evie and Margot are popular names here but there seems to be more variety with the girls names.

So many boys called Ronnie/Reggie or Alfie/Archie/Albie round here. Joshua, Joseph and Jake are very popular as well.

Lots of girls called Isabelle, Charlotte, Ella, Evie, too.

Yes, I assumed the Bernies would be girls. As well as Bernadette, I knew a Bernadine Bernie. Where's it come from to make it popular as a boys name because Bernard isn't very nice?

All 3 Bernie babies are male. Actually how I think about I know an adult Bernie in her 40s who is female - short for Bernadette I think.

All the Ottilies I know are shortened to Ottie rather than Tilly. I guess Tilly might be confused with Matilda

I taught one Ottilie who’d be about 12 or 13 by now.

I have a baby myself and at one baby group there were THREE Ottilies! Out of maybe 20 kids so probably about 10 girls. All would be about 1 now.

At another baby group there were 2 Bernies, and a colleague of mine has just called her baby Bernie.

This thread feels goady. We've all got feelings about names,many personal.

You never know if the person you're communicating with has a loved one with those names. I'm sure plenty will be happy with the name they've given their child.

Perhaps get a hobby?
