Hi everyone, I’m keen to hear your thoughts on our list of possible names so far, as well as any suggestions. We have a bit of a mixture of classical/longer ones and others but do tend to like more traditional names. I’m still early in pregnancy so have quite a while to still decide, hence the long list! Thanks :)

  • Catherine (Kate/Kit for nn)
  • Frances (Frankie)
  • Margaret (Meg)
  • Rosemary (Romy)
  • Carys
  • Mara
  • Rhiannon
  • Maia
  • Sylvia/Sylvie
  • Iris
  • Cara
  • May
  • Clare
  • Nina
  • Gabrielle
  • Sofia

  • Catherine (Kate/Kit for nn) love- but I like classic names. Don't know of any children so more uncommon name. (I work at a nursery too)
  • Frances (Frankie) love
  • Margaret (Meg) - as above, like Maggie nn too- my husband wanted us to use this
  • Rosemary (Romy) like, but not keen on Romy (prefer Rose)
  • Carys - not keen
  • Mara - it's ok
  • Rhiannon - like- different but recognisable
  • Maia - like, but know a few. Possible spelling and pronunciation issues would put me off
  • Sylvia/Sylvie - not as keen but probably as I knew a few growing up and they were cha*vy
  • Iris - really like. Bit more common now
  • Cara - same as Iris
  • May - much prefer as a first name but you have nicer names listed that are more substantial
  • Clare - really like and like Catherine, don't know any young ones
  • Nina - really like
  • Gabrielle - depends if you like Gabby? I'm not keen
  • Sofia - too popular for myself but is a nice name. Prefer Sophie though.

Catherine, Margaret and Frances are my favourite in that order.

Frances (Frankie) - like Frankie
Margaret (Meg) - Maggie is better
Rosemary (Romy) - like Romy
Carys - ok
Mara - ok
Maia - love, would pronounce My-ah
Cara - like
Clare - like
Nina - love

Nice list! My favourites are Carys, Iris, Cara and Sofia. Also love Clara.

Least favourites are Frances (just not my cup of tea), Maia (too many different spellings and pronunciations) and Clare (dated).

  • Catherine (Kate/Kit for nn) - nice but I know a million adult Kates
  • Frances (Frankie) - I find Frances a bit “stuffy” and Frankie a bit “cheeky” - no middle ground options
  • Margaret (Meg) - I love the nn Meg but I would use Megan on the bc for this nn
  • Rosemary (Romy) - Love!
  • Carys - love!
  • Mara - nice!
  • Rhiannon - nice but feels a bit dated in Wales
  • Maia - lovely but overused and lots of spellings (Maya, Mia etc)
  • Sylvia/Sylvie - feels a bit dated to me
  • Iris - love this!
  • Cara - love!
  • May - love!
  • Clare - lovely but I know loads of adult Clares
  • Nina - nice
  • Gabrielle - nice if you like Gabby
  • Sofia - nice but v. popular

I’d choose Iris or Cara 😊 Carys, Mara, May, Megan and Rosemary (Romy) are close second place!

I love Kate, Rhiannon and Nina !

I love Sylvie! Couldn’t get my partner to agree for our little girl but would have been my first choice!
