These are our final two, not sure how I feel about ‘Aggie’ as a n/n & OH suspects Mina could be called ‘meanie’ I know which one I like more but would love to hear thoughts & other recommendations :)

Mina is lovely IMO

Agatha is ugly and is also Miss Trunchbull’s name.

Itisallabitvague · 27/05/2025 18:21

Why do posters come on this thread to say they don't like either....she's literally asking which name.

Mina - gorgeous, definitely don't envisage meany at all.

KayEmAy · 27/05/2025 18:17

Not keen on Agatha but besides that if you don't like Aggie I would avoid it. Team Mina

Turnoffthelight · 25/05/2025 16:25

I know a 4 year old Agatha who goes by Aggie. It really suits her!

Backupbatterydown · 25/05/2025 16:22

Agatha is much more early 20th century rather than Victorian. I love it.

Until they’re older.
Then they’ll be an old born.
But still not an old woman.

Surely we all hope every baby girl will live to be an older woman?

Sherararara · 25/05/2025 16:10

Koalafan · 25/05/2025 13:16

So a newborn will only ever be a newborn?

A lot of you’re a new born

DandelionPockets · 25/05/2025 12:59

Love the name Agatha.

YourOnMute · 25/05/2025 12:59

Agatha. A great name.

PurpleChrayn · 25/05/2025 12:58

They’re both horrible, ghostly names. Like Victorian women at a seance.

Sherararara · 25/05/2025 12:51

Koalafan · 25/05/2025 11:09

What's wrong with being an old(er) woman?

A lot of you’re a new born

becca3210 · 25/05/2025 11:24

Please don’t call her Agatha. Mina is better but Nina or Agnes are nicer in my opinion.

Koalafan · 25/05/2025 11:09

Sherararara · 25/05/2025 11:07

Both are very “old woman” names to me, sorry.

What's wrong with being an old(er) woman?

Pipsquiggle · 25/05/2025 11:09

If these are your last 2 choices and you like them equally, go for the one that best fits with the surname. They are both quite different so one must gel better

Koalafan · 25/05/2025 11:08

PraisebetoGod · 21/05/2025 21:24

I don't like either name but then why would you care?

This. 😬

Sherararara · 25/05/2025 11:07

Mydadsbirthday · 25/05/2025 11:06

I much prefer the French version which is Agathe, pronounced with a soft t not a th sound, but that doesn't really work in the UK. I don't like our pronunciation of Agnes either, the French is much nicer!

What about Inès?

Fadesto · 25/05/2025 11:01

I love love love Agatha. I think it’s due a come back. Aggie on a little toddler woukd be super cute. But if you don’t like it o suppose it’s a Bit of a stretch but Attie, gaga, gia, G, ags?
I don’t really like mina (assuming it’s pronounced meaner) I’d go Nina which is lovely

agatha does have the newish Disney series and wagatha Christie and of course Agatha Christie if any of those bother you

PurpleReindeer2 · 25/05/2025 10:54

Don't really like either. Agatha at a push.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 25/05/2025 09:46

I like Agatha

The one in Rivals is known as Taggie

Adela or Allegra are alternatives if you’re really worried about Aggie (though I also quite like it)

Mina is too nothingy as a full name - but it could be a nickname for Marina which is nice

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/05/2025 05:27

DD is 13 and knows a couple of Aggies /: and Agatha and an Agnes. The Agatha is very cool, so I have very good associations with the name.

Eenameenadeeka · 24/05/2025 01:48

Mina is the less bad option of the 2

TeenLifeMum · 23/05/2025 13:58

This is a fascinating thread. I think Agatha is a fab name and can’t see why people think it’s “ugly”. Don’t worry about others and go for what you love.
