Thoughts on the name Seth? I really love it but it seems to be a marmite name

I’ve got a now adult Seth. Always loved it, never regretted it. Never had any negative comments about my choice. On a rare occasion people have had difficulty pronouncing it though, Seff and Steff, which I’ve always thought odd

Hi and congratulations on your brilliant choice to all the other Seth mums.

Love Seth, the one I know is 9& gets called Sethie, so cute!

I have a 9 year old called Seth who I call Sethie... maybe we know each other in real life!!!

Probably my least favourite name, sorry! But there will always be someone who doesn't like a name! For me it's just that I dislike the sound. I don't like Beth, Lilith, Judith, Elspeth, Meredith either.

Redflamingos · 22/05/2025 16:31

I think I struggle because the S and TH sounds are made so close together and my tongue struggles with that

Redflamingos · 22/05/2025 08:23

I really dislike the sound and struggle to say it properly.

cheapskatemum · 22/05/2025 08:13

@SoloSofa24I know, he was a card wasn’t he? Unforgettable character though. Would be great on reality TV Grin.

Dunnop · 22/05/2025 00:41

It’s a nice name. Popular here though, which is a sign people like it.

BangersAndGnash · 22/05/2025 00:26

Love it

V cool

Ilovewillow · 21/05/2025 23:58

I have a Seth, so for what it’s worth I think it’s a great name!

PluckyBamboo · 21/05/2025 23:44

No! 100 year old Game Keeper, living in sin with Betty.

I’ve liked it since I read Cold Comfort Farm as a teenager.

My first thought was Cold Comfort Farm too, but I wouldn't want to name a child after Seth Starkadder! Though maybe the version played by Rufus Sewell might persuade me, if there was any chance the child might turn out looking like that...

Sashya · 21/05/2025 23:38

Reminds me of the dark side of the Force, enemies of the Jedi....

But I am weird this way.

Generally, I like old testament names.

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 21/05/2025 23:29

Always been one of my least liked boys names. Sorry. I seem to be in the minority though.

SabbatWheel · 21/05/2025 23:28

It was on my list but DH didn't like it. I've taught just one Seth.

DramaAlpaca · 21/05/2025 23:26

I strongly dislike it. It sounds sort of slithery and lispy to me.

Just1712 · 21/05/2025 23:18

I love it!! Don’t know any Seth’s

Borris · 21/05/2025 23:16

I hear cess pit

MiddleAgedDread · 21/05/2025 22:51

I don’t like it.
to me it’s a very biblical name.
i only know one and they’re the least religious family ever which has always confused me.
it always feels quite abrupt and harsh. It’s one of
those names that doesn’t shorten to a nickname and doesn’t lend itself to being lengthened to one either.

Hamabeed · 21/05/2025 22:49

We also had Bramah on the list which is a form of Abraham.

Hamabeed · 21/05/2025 22:48

Was on our list for boys!

TooGoodToGoto · 21/05/2025 21:18

Lovely name

cheapskatemum · 21/05/2025 21:06

I’ve liked it since I read Cold Comfort Farm as a teenager.

PopThatBench · 21/05/2025 19:29

Oh I quite like that! I forgot that was a name, I haven’t heard it in years. Lovely choice!

Firsttimebabymummy · 21/05/2025 19:28

RuthW · 21/05/2025 17:23

Nice but a bit short for my liking.

Same here. Other than James, I like longer names.

AdaColeman · 21/05/2025 18:52

Too biblical for me.
