Heey!

We are a Nordic/English family and have a daughter called Agnes.

We are expecting another girl, but can't agree on a girls name that works in both regions. Please help!!

We like the following...

Agnes & Eira
Agnes & Astrid
Agnes & Asta

Between Eira and Vera?? 😏

Greta is also a great idea.

Something quite ‘compatible’ when written.

Agnes & Greta

Ingrid?

Was going to suggest Ingrid too

Annika
Inger (though harder in English).
Thyra
Maike
Solvej

Got to throw in
Lykke & Nynne as I like both.

Mandarinaduck · 15/05/2025 22:02

I like all of those, especially Asta.

What about Alice, Emma, Elsa?

Norastroud · 15/05/2025 21:12

Agnes is a lovely name, how about Freya or Frida / Freida? Both gorgeous, strong feminine names IMO.

I like Astrid but think it would becoming confusing for siblings to have the same initial.

Asta is my favourite out of your options. Although it autocorrected to Asda so I hope it wouldn't get confused with that.
I was going to say Mary, but I don't know if that would work in Nordic countries

Moreteaandchocolate · 15/05/2025 17:22

Eira, definitely- I love it! 🥰

Agnes and Astrid is gorgeous! The only issue is the A initial thing that they’d both be Miss A surname which may be confusing for post etc.

I don’t have much experience on what works in Norwegian/ Swedish but here are some suggestions.

Agnes and Mabel
Agnes and Ida
Agnes and Saskia
Agnes and Elsie
Agnes and Orla
Agnes and Roma
Agnes and Etta
Agnes and Della
Agnes and Ruby
Agnes and Ella
Agnes and Zara
Agnes and Nola
Agnes and Freya
Agnes and Livi
Agnes and Vera
Agnes and Evie
Agnes and Eva

I like Astrid (everyone will have some idea of how to pronounce it) but will it be annoying for your daughters to both get post addressed to Miss A Surname?

This is partly what I am worried about, that Miss A Surname will be a bit matchy... also don't want to be stuck on "A" in case we have any more children 😂

Eliza
Anya
Margot

Love Margot, but it sounds quite harsh in Norwegian/Swedish...almost like "Marr-ggot"...

My DD is Enid and if we'd had another, she'd have been Agnes. 😂

I like Eira OP, the others are lovely names but a bit matchy.

Love Enid, would have gladly used this name but it is not very well-known in the Nordic countries. Glad you like Agnes! 😜
Agree that Asta and Astrid are a bit matchy...
thanks!!
