DH and I seem to have different tastes in names and we have finally compiled a list of some we both like. Would like to know other people’s impressions of them. Help us narrow them down!

Phillipa
Ottilie
Candace
Pandora
Henrietta
Juliet
Clementine

Juliet

there rest are far too frilly

Waitingforspring77 · 14/05/2025 16:53

Sorry just realised I misspelled Candace and Philipa

Waitingforspring77 · 14/05/2025 16:51

Juliet - beautiful
Henrietta - a nice and underused classic
Phillipa - same vein as Henrietta. Classic and rare these days.

Ottilie - sounds like Otterly to my ears or makes me think of Ottoman
Pandora - awful
Clementine - OK but don't love it
Cadence - awful

May I suggest Helena, Lydia or Louisa? Alexandra?

mathanxiety · 14/05/2025 16:24

I like Clementine, Juliet, and Henrietta, in that order. Not keen on the others.

Emanwenym · 14/05/2025 16:20

@Dillanegasms , it is usually Philippa. I know several. I've not seen a different spelling other than on here.

Phillipa- like w nn Pippa; though possibly slightly frumpy?
Ottilie- ok but trendy and probably will date
Candace- don’t like this one, sounds downmarket and dated
Pandora- love though some will say tied to Pandora’s box
Henrietta- like, could nn Etta
Juliet- love
Clementine- love love love

WildCherryBlossom · 14/05/2025 15:24

Juliet is lovely!

BangersAndGnash · 14/05/2025 15:17

Phillipa - OK. Pip / Pippa are goon n names
Ottilie - Good
Candace - no
Pandora - no. Box. Jewellery
Henrietta - ok
Juliet - good
Clementine - v good

Emanwenym · 14/05/2025 15:14

Phillipa - it's Philippa. Best on your list when spelt properly.
Ottilie - fashionable. I don't like it
Candace - Not keen at all. Seems American and dated
Pandora - cheap jewellery
Henrietta - OK, a bit long
Juliet - Pretty but will be Jools
Clementine - Satsuma.

I also don't get why Henrietta seems to become popular, to me it's so clunky. Just Henry with a twiddly bit on the end, it doesn't really flow. What could she be known as? The full name is a real mouthful.

Harriet however does flow and it's much nicer. Seems more of a name in its own right.

I think its just because Hetty/Hettie is a cute nickname.
I know a few Hattie's as well.

OP

Prefer Harriet for posh sounding H names though.

Pippa maybe, or Juliet.

I know a Josephine which fits those names as well.

On the whole, not keen on any on your list.

Clementine sounds ok as it is, but a nickname of Clem is a bit, well, like a chesty cough.

yikesanotherbooboo · 14/05/2025 14:43

Philippa is my favourite
I also quite like Juliet and to a lesser extent Pandora.
Ottilie seems a bit too much of a fad and the pronunciation is a bit of an issue.
I find Henrietta and Clementine pretty but they are both rather long and impractical imo.

Sal17690 · 14/05/2025 14:42

Philippa and Juliet are fabulous.

Pandora is a very boring charm bracelet brand.

Pemba · 14/05/2025 14:40

Philippa (Pippa) or Juliet.

Pandora is ok.

I really dislike Ottilie and Candace.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 14/05/2025 14:34

Juliet.

ImFineItsAllFine · 14/05/2025 14:33

I like Juliet and Clementine, not really a fan of the rest.

Gundogday · 14/05/2025 14:31

Phillipa - like, and line Pippa or Pip as nn
Ottilie - on, very popular
Candace - not keen
Pandora - not keen
Henrietta - like, plus like Hetty as nn
Juliet - ok
Clementine - favourite from your list

I know you didn’t ask for suggestions but how about Emmeline also?

MauraLabingi · 14/05/2025 14:28

Philippa is a cool name (spelt like I've written it) nn Pippa
I like Juliet too.
What about Madeleine? Quite like Clementine but with a nicer nn! Nobody wants to be called Clemmie.

SapporoBaby · 14/05/2025 14:26

I’d cut Clementine because it’s really popular now.

Pandora reminds me of the jewellery shop not the myth now so I’d cut that too.

Would you hate Candy as a nickname for Candace?

Myoldbear · 14/05/2025 14:23

AdaColeman · 14/05/2025 13:56

Juliet is my favourite from your list.

Philippa is the traditional spelling, just as Philip is spelt with only one L.

I also like Juliet best.

I also agree that Philippa spelled like this is best, and that is my second favourite from the list.

Although Philip is the the most common spelling of the boys' name, I have occasionally seen Phillip.

CurlewKate · 14/05/2025 14:20

I like Juliet so long as it’s pronounced JUliet not JuliET! How about Harriet?

wandawaves · 14/05/2025 14:18

Juliet. All the rest are awful.

AdaColeman · 14/05/2025 13:56

LimitedBrightSpots · 14/05/2025 13:56

From your list I like Juliet and Henrietta best. I don't really like the others.

I like Clemency better than Clementine.
