Hector or Edmund? Thoughts appreciated! neither are my top 5 but they are where my DH and I sort of cross over …

DD (early 20s) had a Hector in her year group - I will always remember him as one of the most charming, polite, talented and clever young boys I’ve ever met. I really can’t say that anybody ever cared or thought about the meaning of his name! It’s unusual in a nice way in my opinion

I don’t hate many names but Edmund is absolutely awful. Hector is lovely.

BeaLola · 14/05/2025 00:38

I can't see Edmund without thinking of Blackadder

I do like Hector

Weefreetiffany · 14/05/2025 00:26

Hector the noun always reminds me of hector the verb, which seems like a cruel start for a small child. Not a fan of edmund either. Like Edwin and Edgar though, grandpa name revivals due for both of them

wandawaves · 14/05/2025 00:24

Hector is an awful name IMO.
Edmund is ok i guess.

lurkerchan · 14/05/2025 00:18

Hector

WetBandits · 14/05/2025 00:12

Ooh, I love both! I think Hector has the edge for me, though.

I also liked Victor for DS, but he looked nothing like a Victor when he was born Grin

redgingerbread · 14/05/2025 00:07

Definitely Edmund.

CheFaro · 14/05/2025 00:05

I know a late teenage Hector. He is fabulous, but he friends continually addressing him as ‘Hec’ (or occasionally as ‘Flippin’ Hec’) would do my head in.,

gottakeeponmoving · 14/05/2025 00:05

Hector wins

Pompompurin1 · 14/05/2025 00:02

I love Hector

Ellmau · 14/05/2025 00:02

Or what about Edgar?

Ellmau · 14/05/2025 00:01

Edmund, although Hector is quite cool.

nameobsessed · 14/05/2025 00:01

I love both but I prefer Edwin to Edmund so I’ll say Hector!
