Twin girl names - Frankie & Ada

Hello! I’d like to know people’s opinion on the name ‘Frankie’ for a girl
we’re currently expecting twin girls and my husband is in love with the name - I’m also a fan, I just would like to know what people think as I’m worried of naming our daughter something either we or she will dislike later down the line

as it stands our current favourites are

Frankie & Ada
(Frankie Rose & Ada Rae)

Thankyou in advance and as always I’m open to any suggestions as naming twins is hard work!

for context we also have an Ellie, Isaac & Reuben

I would have assumed Frankie was a boy, more so because Ada has a girl's name. As a shortening of Frances it is cute but give her a choice. Even as a child, she may wish she had a 'pretty' (feminine) name like her sister (Francesca is more obviously feminine though I like it less than Frances).

Also while I don't think twin names need to match, or be a set, by giving such different styles you'd be giving one the "spunky", hipster name (Frankie), while her sister has the more establishment name, with more solid positive (Lovelace) associations. You have to hope this matches their actual personalities or or could lead to unfair comparisons.

You need to call her Frances or Francesca and then shorten it. When she's an adult, she'll thank you.

Ada is awful IMO, and over-used.

Zebralie · 07/06/2025 08:07

I assumed Frank is a boys name.

MayaPinion · 07/06/2025 07:54

I’d go for Francesca or Frances, and Adeline or Adele, and then have the quirkier names as nicknames.

Onthemaintrunkline · 07/06/2025 07:52

Dislike Frankie for a boy or girl. If I heard the name I’d think it was a boys name.

KayEmAy · 06/06/2025 19:37

other ideas:

Evie James
Rae Amelia
Josie Emma
Wendy Rose
Isla Wren
Thea Quinn
Olive Morgan nn Olly
Cara Celeste nn Cici
Renee Ada

I'd go for Francesca and Adelaide, with Frankie and Ada for short.

Love this !

user1492757084 · 13/05/2025 03:23

I would swap the second names so the s doesn't clash and to give Ada a longer name.

Francesca Rae and Adelaide Rose
Frankie and Ada

Frances Rae and Adele Rose
Frankie and Ada

Frankie Rae and Ada Rose

Other ideas..
Francesca Rae and Amity Rose - Frankie and Amity
Frankie Rae and Anna Rose
Frances Rae and Mia Rose - Frankie and Mia

If I was Frankie I might be a bit peeved to have been given a unisex name while my twin had a proper girl name.
I don’t think they actually go together either, Ada sounds more classic while Frankie for a girl a bit more ‘edgy’
Have you considered another unisex name compliment Frankie? Taylor, Morgan, Brooke, Robin

s3tut0y3r · 12/05/2025 23:22

Why not use Francesca or Frances? That way your daughter can choose whether she wants to use a short form as she gets older. I'm not a fan of shortened 1st names. It doesn't give the child the chance to shorten their name for friends. Frankie is a lovely name though.

Newlittlerescue · 12/05/2025 22:37

Positive: I love both names!
Negative: Frankie doesn't leave her anywhere to go if she doesn't like her name (and it's pretty Marmite, unlike Ada). So Francesca or Frances on the birth certificate, but called Frankie for everything else. (Lengthen Ada's name for birth certificate too if you want to be scrupulously fair).
Another negative: Frankie & Ada sounds like a childrenswear brand. But that's probably the case with lots of twins' names!

Mumofgirls2017 · 12/05/2025 22:34

They go great with your others 😊

SleepSleepSleepSleepSleep · 12/05/2025 20:51

Not a fan of Frankie as a girl's name and it really doesn't go with your existing children's names, but if you love it, as others have said, at least give her a longer name which you can shorten to Frankie and she can easily change the nickname later.

Ada is fine but really rising in popularity near me. My 5yo knows four (ages 2-6).

netflixfan · 12/05/2025 19:48

Don’t like Frankie and I don’t think it goes with Ada. I would suggest another old fashioned girls name, such as Mabel, Norah, Lizzie, Edith

Enko · 12/05/2025 19:46

I don't like unisex names so Frankie is out for me. If you need it go with Francesca imo..

I have a uni sex name myself it's a pain.

mummysmagicmedicine · 12/05/2025 19:42

I recently met twin girls called Frankie and Ada (short for Francesca and Adelaide). They were 1 ish and absolutely adorable and suited their names so much.

Moreteaandchocolate · 12/05/2025 19:31

I love Ada! And I love Frankie as short for Francesca, but personally not as a standalone name.

Would you consider Francesca and Adaline, nn Frankie and Ada?

Also, I have twins and people stop you and ask if they’re identical / boys / girls etc all the time for some reason! I could see it getting annoying having to explain over and over that no, they aren’t a boy and a girl, they’re two girls!

But if that doesn’t bother you, and if you like Frankie as a full name, just go for it - Frankie and Ada do flow really nicely together 😊

MCCN · 12/05/2025 19:28

I'd go for Francesca and Adelaide, with Frankie and Ada for short.

Firsttimebabymummy · 12/05/2025 19:21

AnniesMother · 12/05/2025 18:33

Love Frankie and Ada - I’d go for Francesca officially though

Agree. Lovely names!

ninjahamster · 12/05/2025 19:04

I’m not a fan of Frankie. I love all your other names though!

ballroomblue · 12/05/2025 19:01

I liked Frankie but automatically thought it was a boy. So, no, I don't like it for a girl. I love Francesca or Francine. Ada is lovely.

hyggetyggedotorg · 12/05/2025 18:53

I quite like Frankie. Ada doesn’t match any of your other names though, it’s very “old lady” and not in a good way.

mysecretshame · 12/05/2025 18:35

I'd call Frankie Francesca or Frances, and I personally don't like Rae as a middle name but as twins they're pretty nice names.

MumChp · 12/05/2025 18:34

Frankie no.
Frances or Francesca.
