Liking a name but only when spelled a certain way

A bit like Anne from green gables. The boys name Lee is horrible (imo.) Makes me think of 80s comprehensive schools maths sink set. But I met a little boy called Li (I think Chinese heritage) and thought it was lovely.

I also like Ceri but not Kerry.

Wondering if it is just me.

I thought the Aimee spelling was used if it was short for Amelia. That's what my friend did for her daughter anyway.

I thought it was French. I do know quite a few Aimee’s as a standalone name (who aren’t French)

I much prefer Anne to Ann. I totally get where Anne Shirley was coming from.

I prefer Amy to Aimee. Caitlin to Katelyn. Annabel to Annabelle.

I prefer Cara to Kara but DH felt more strongly the other way to me and DD is Kara!

Love Mollie over Molly, way prefer Eoghan to Eoin or Owen, and prefer Cathy to Kathy!
(I'm in Ireland before people come at me saying some of these names aren't pronounced the same 😅)

Yep, I feel this way too - Juliet lovely and elegant, Juliette is fussy. Isabel is a classic but Isabelle too frilly. I like Susanna, not sure about Susannah (why does it need the extra H?). I guess I don’t like names that look over elaborate when there’s a simpler spelling available!

DC2 might have been Casper… but I only wanted Casper and DH only wanted Caspar.

Thankfully she was a girl.

However, Poppie and Hollie also wrong.

That’s so funny because I came on to say Katy is lovely but not Katie! I think Katie would be assumed to be short for Katherine/Catherine/Kathryn whereas Katy is a full name in its own right.

I prefer Jodie to Jody. But Mandy over Mandie? I'm very fussy with my y's and ie's 😅

Li is cute. I know Welsh males and a female spelt Leigh, but I still think it’s a bit of a crap name

I have a Sofia but wouldn’t call her Sophia. Perfectly nice name but I just don’t like it the same.

Absolutely I think Lee is horrid but Li is lovely, probably because the Lees i've met have been bald men with england tattoos in their 50’s and the ones spelled Li have been lovely young students.

And the spelling but mainly the connections I make to people with the names.
